I run a space marine army dressed up like Deathwatch. I have around 6 really pretty veteran and close combat kitted marines that I was wondering how best to incorporate into my army. I don't expect them to be super effective, but for such cool looking models, it seems a waste not to put them on the table. I usually run Pedro Kantor, so I was thinking about bringing an Honor Guard. I was wondering if anyone knew an effective way to use an Honor Guard in game.

My army currently consists of the following:

Pedro Kantor
Librarian

10 Man Tac Squad, PF, Melta-Gun, Rocket Launcher, Rhino
10 Man Tac Squad, PF, Melta-Gun, Multi-Melta, Rhino

5 Man Stern Guard, 5 Combi-Meltas, Drop Pod
5 Man Terminators, Thunder Hammers & Storm Shields

2x Vindicators
LRR

It seems that if I want an honor guard, I'm probably going to have to invest in some sort of transport for them.

Any thoughts?

Razorback..............................................................75
TL Assault cannon

Thats what I run, on average they cause 1.5 more wounds than a 5 man LC terminator squad against plague marines, you could swap the thunderhammer out, seeing as you already will have a p.fist in the squad.

Run them in the landraider. Teleport you termies: they will not care.

I wouldnt, your termies wont be able to assault the turn they come in, with the LR they will get into combat easier.

The banner is not useful if you are already running pedro, since the +1 attack wont stack. Honor guard are basicly worse, but easier to transport, LC terminators.

You are running them for looks, which is fine, and they get transported nicely by a rhino. Just keep them cheap and use them to munch on non-deathstar units, while your THSS termies gun for the deathstars.

Vindicators are really risky btw if you plan on running Honor guard. The lack of an invuln save, the fact your honor guard need to be close to the enemy, and the scatter of the s10 ap2 large blast can all converge with disastrous results. Combipreds are much safer if you plan on putting marines (both the sternguard and the honorguard) right next to the enemy.

Thanks for all the advice, guys. I'm looking forward to trying it out.

I think I'll try running up with a rhino at first, since I have the model. Ill also try proxying a rb. Would you run Pedro with the guard or the terms?

I agree with the comment about the vinds, I'm probably going to phase them out eventually.

Use pedro with the termis in LR variant because he gives them plus 1 attack where as the honour guard have their banner and would not beneifit.

In the past i used to run a Honor Guard squad anywherefrom 5 to 10 guys all with relic blades. Let me tell you know its quite expensive but when you jump them out of a land raider and assualt anything, you will annihalate anything you attack guarantead.

Riddick has an expensive point. 50 Points for 2 attacks, S6 I4. I guess it comes down to when you want to strike and what you're fighting.

I wouldnt bother with relic blades. Stick with your powerweapons and thammer sarge.

I would stick pedro in the rhino nominally, as you probably want to use his orbital bombardment on turn 1, which he cant do in the land raider. With a 12 inch range you dont need to worry about buying the banner on the honor guard, as even if pedro is with the termies with a 12 inch range your almost sure to have your +1 attack on the honor guard.

Keep them cheap, 3 guys, 3 relic blades, and go monster hunting.

OK, Take 2 squads of 5 scouts each, then take shrike and a squad of assualt marines.
Meanwhile, take Marneus Calgar
Put him in a LR (standard) with 10 Honour Guard with Relic Blades and AGLs
Then Foot slog another 2 10 man Honour Guard Squads with Relic Blades and AGLs
Then take your 2 vindicators and specifically target your own guys.
See how that works for you.

Ya, I play Crons, what about it?
Also, they are just shiny space zombies with guns.
