So, back in February I was interested in starting Demons. Right as I was looking at ordering some boxes online, someone from my local gaming store posted on our forum about how he would like to sell his Demon army. I excitedly met him at our store and looked over them.
They needed a LOT of work. Let me say that again. They needed a lot of work. He had kept all of the models (plastic and metal) in a big storage bin with absolutely no padding or packaging of any kind. Needless to say, there were broken plastic bits and metal pieces everywhere. There were only a handful of models that were 100% intact.
That being said, the deal was something that I simply couldn't pass up. He was offering me the whole thing for the low low price of $250. I took the deal, promising myself that my next project would be to refurbish my little minions. I took them all home, not even entirely sure of every model that I had just purchased. All I knew was that I had a Demon army now, and that I had a lot of work to do to make them presentable.

Well, 7 months later and here I am. I'm finally pulling them out from under my bed and getting to work on them.

It was only after getting them back out again that I really realized what a good deal I got them for. At the time of purchase, it just looked like a lot of Demons... But after actually taking down a list of them, here is what I got:

Unique Characters/HQs
Bloodthirster
Epidemus
Lord of Change (which he had glued two heads on to make a Fateweaver....)
The Masque
Skulltaker
Changeling
Karanak

Troops
40 Bloodletters
10 Deamonettes
18 Plague Bearers
10 Pink Horrors
10 Pink Horrors (unopened in box)

Elite
1 Feind of Slaanesh
1 BloodCrusher
3 Flamers
3 Flamers (unopened in box)

Fast Attack
5 Flesh Hounds
9 Wolves (that he used as Flesh Hounds)
5 Seekers (unopened in box)

Heavy
3 Deamon Princes
2 Soul Grinders

After doing a bit of research and math, to buy all of these models at retail price is just under $1000..... All of which I got for a quarter of that. (yay!)

Good deal aside, what I didn't pay for in cash I'm going to have to pay in time and effort. These poor little creatures need some serious love, and that's what this blog is going to be about. I'm a horrible procrastinator *cough* as evidenced by the fact these have been sitting under my bed for 7 months *cough* so I think having a blog that I can post regularly on will help. (I hope) I'm planning on setting quotas for myself so that I can't procrastinate too much, and can actually update this on the reg.

To begin with, here are some pictures of my Demons as they stand right now:

The first project I'm starting on is actually the reason why I pulled these guys out in the first place--a 1000pt doubles tourny list. I figured 1000 points would be a manageable size to begin with. Instead of being overwhelmed with "how do I begin?" I'm just going to tackle this Khorne list and get a small chunk out of the way.

First project (of many to come) is tackling the two Soul Grinders.
As I work on them I'll add more WIP pics. I've already started on one, so expect pictures of a finished Soul Grinder by the end of the week! [:

Thanks for reading folks, and wish me luck! [:

Automatically Appended Next Post:
Instead of being lazy, I actually got up and took a picture of what I have done on Soul Grinder #1 (the one that had been simple greened) so far. The pictures I take kind of suck because they're taken from my phone, but you can get the idea.

In person, it's much brighter and has more contrast... Hopefully in future pics you'll be able to see that.

So, it's been a while since I last posted... School's been kicking my butt xD
I finally got a chance to take a couple pictures of the progress though!

Here are a couple more pictures of the Soul Grinder.. I haven't really done much on him yet, because of my broken promise to myself xD *cough*

Honestly, I'm rather disappointed in myself. The one promise I made when I bought this army was that I was NOT *under any circumstance* going to let myself buy new models... Well... I was in a spendy mood and treated myself to some Bloodcrushers. xD I've set aside the Soul Grinder for now in exchange for Juggernaught beauty <3

I've assembled them already, and plan on making two of them regular Bloodcrushers with their Hellblades, and one a Herald. The two regular ones are going to be red, and the Herald's Juggernaught will be Gold.
So far I have about half of one of the regular ones finished:

And I've started a bit on the gold, just to see if I liked the color or not. Let me know what you think of the gold. [:

I've also started on all of the bases of the Bloodletters. I decided that I wanted to try out the whole lava thing, so here is my take on it:

If you're at all interested and haven't seen it already, I actually posted a tutorial on how I did them. Here's the link if you want to check it out!

Since I'm basing all of the Bloodletters on lava bases, I decided it might be fun to try that with all of my Khorne, including the Bloodcrushers. This is one of the unfinished bases:

After doing the lava bases I kind of thought of a problem... Since all the bloodletters and bloodcrushers are going to be on lava bases... what kind of bases will the rest of the army have? I don't really want to do them *all* lava... So I thought maybe I could create some kind of themed base for each God of Chaos. Khorne will be lava, of course. The rest too a while for me to think up. For Nurgle I've decided on swampish bases. For Slaanesh I'm thinking that perhaps on the feet of all the models will be cracks of purple lavaish stuff creeping out of them to represent the chaos effect they bring to reality. Tzeench I'm thinking I'll do the same sort of idea: chaos spawning from their feet. Since it's Tzeench, I'm thinking the grass/sand around their feet will be crazy neon colors. Let me know what you think, if you have any better ideas I would love to hear them!
To keep some kind of coherency throughout all of the bases, all of them will have some kind of water effect. Lava for Khorne, swap water effect for Nurgle, Purple Lava cracks for Slaanesh, and perhaps blue/pink lava and neon color sand/grass for Tzeench.

Going with this idea, I tried my hand at a few Nurgle bases, just to see if I liked it or not. Quite frankly, I'm rather pleased with how they came out.

Well, that's all the progress I've made so far. Let me know if you have any better ideas for the themed bases I've been pondering, and all general feedback is welcome. [:
Thanks for reading all this! Haha

Very nice work on the soulgrinder. Did you strip him first or just paint over his primer/paintjob?

I stripped him. There's a pic in the first post showing him. He pretty much just looks lile a pile of garbage. Haha.
I then sprayed his body mecharite red with my airbrush, and took off from there.

Wow, those look fantastic. I've always had trouble with reds/oranges, but you did them excellently. Great job.
