Hello Dakkaites (Dakkanauts?), one of my friends recently got into WH 40k, and after buying the AoBR set and selling the Orks, he decided with my help on using the Blood Angels codex. However, he really likes the White Scars chapter, and wanted to use the BA codex to represent them. What do you guys think? I think it's not a good idea from really, any way you look at it because AFAIK White Scars and Blood Angels don't really have that much in common. Of course, I know the centuries-old saying of "Screw what others think, if you like the idea, go for it" but it just doesn't seem to make any sense to me.

No, there is absolutely no reasonable explaination for using the BA codex for WS. If there was a discount for bikers and or they could be used as troops I could see it. The bit about having fast Predators doesn't counteract the fact that WSs are and always have been a SM Biker army.
Point out the SM captain and taking the command squad on bikes, bikes as troops, using attack bikes for fire support in troops and squadrons of attack bikes or speeders in fast attack. Whatever points he has left should go to predators, its not a powergaming army. The only other option that even remotely fits is the DA codex, again not a power gaming army. But again BA...no.

You see, to Auston, everyone is a Death Star; there's only one way you can take it and that's through a small gap at the back.

I'd say just use the White Scars character from the vanilla book. He COULD use the BA book, but it wouldn't make much sense.

No, people SEE them as biker armies. Whites Scars are a fast, lightning raid army, but that's just as possible using transports as using Bike.

Their first 3rd ed ruleset(presented in a WD right before a WS vs Black Legion Batrep) simply required everything to be on bikes, in Transports, wearing jump packs, or be a vehicle, no shifting around(so you still required Tacs), except Scouts(because they range ahead of the army) and Dreadnoughts(because Fat Bloke loved them).

White Scars are built around bikers, not jump packs. The fast vehicles work with them though. I've heard of worse counts-as Marines, but it's not great.

This is really an example of just wanting to use a slightly more powerful codex. White Scars are IN the vanilla book.

If his army is painted, he knows his rules, and everything is legal, then I would give it a shot. I have heard of worse, and it is always nice to see the White Scars doing something other than riding on bikes.
