Hello all, i have been running a pretty standard wolves list lately and blasting to oblivion anything that is in range, but when enemies get close (such as my recent game against dark eldar) i am really lacking in the CC division. So i decided to amend my list abit and add in a wolf priest, mark of the wulfen and a flamer or two. Tell me what you think. I will post both lists. List 1... Old Faithful. HQ Rune Priest Living Lightning, Murderous Hurricane. Chooser Rune Priest Living Lightning, JoWW Elites Wolf Scouts x2 Meltabombs Meltagun 90 4x Wolf Guard 1: PF + Combimelta 2: PF + Combimelta 3: PF + Combimelta 4: PF + Combimelta Troops Grey Hunters 8 X4 Meltagun Wolf Standard Rhino MotW 185 (no MotW on one squad) Fast Attack[b] Landspeeder x2 Multimelta + Heavy Flamer x2 140 [b]Heavy Support Long Fangs (5) x3 4x Missile Launcher 115 3x TL Las Razorbacks = 225 1997 List 2... That extra CC punch. HQ Rune Priest Living Lightning, Murderous Hurricane. Chooser Rune Priest Living Lightning, JoWW Wolf Priest Elites Wolf Scouts Meltabomb Meltagun Wolf Scouts Meltabomb Meltagun 3x Wolf Guard 1: PF + Combimelta 2: PF + Combimelta 3: PF + Combimelta Troops Grey Hunters 8 = 135 Meltagun +5 Wolf Standard +10 Rhino +35 MotW 185 Grey Hunters 8 = 135 Meltagun +5 Wolf Standard +10 Rhino +35 MotW 185 Grey Hunters 8 = 135 Flamer Wolf Standard +10 Rhino +35 MotW 180 Grey Hunters 5 = 75 Meltagun +5 Razorback TL HB +40 120 Fast Attack Landspeeder x2 Multimelta + heavy Flamer x 2 140 Heavy Support Long Fangs (5) x3 4x Missile Launcher 115 3x TL Las Razorbacks = 225 1998 So as you can see I got rid of some of the 4th 8 man GH squad and made it an obj camping razorback unit, while also dumping most of the upgrades for said squad freed up enough points to add in a wolf priest with the flamer GH squad. C&C is much appreciated. Thanks

Fluff wise your list sucks.
Get TWC for the cc kick. Otherwise your second list seems more balanced.

I don't understand your opening statement... It seems like a pretty stock standard selection of a Space Wolves company. I agree that it looks more balanced, though. Should give you a little more oomph against the likes of Dark Eldar.

What harm can it do to find out? It's a question that left bruises down the centuries, even more than "It can't hurt if I only take one" and "It's all right if you only do it standing up." Terry Pratchett, Making Money
"Can a magician kill a man by magic?" Lord Wellington asked Strange. Strange frowned. He seemed to dislike the question. "I suppose a magician might," he admitted, "but a gentleman never could." Susanna Clarke Jonathan Strange & Mr. Norrell

What is your argument for this being "unfluffy"? It seems like a pretty standard load out for any Wolf Lord to take with him into battle. The only exception being double Rune Priests and MAYBE the exclusion of Blood Claws I see nothing that doesn't fit the fluff.
I think the WPis a good way of adding some more CC prowess with out having to change the list entirely to add TWC. Also, TWC aren't what they used to be with the emergence of GK and I6 Hammerhanded Force Weapons all over the place...

@MFletch - How was that comment helpful at all? He was not asking for fluff advice, and to be honest his list is not outside the fluff at all. Perhaps you could provide more commentary on why you think his list goes against fluff?
@The OP - I don't think adding a Wolf Priest will give you the close combat punch you are looking for in this list. I think what WILL give you that punch is Thunderwolf Cavalry at the expense of Wolf Scouts and Land Speeders. Thunderwolves are the best melee unit in the codex, and they fit neatly into the list design you are going for. At 2,000 points you can run a Wolf Lord on a Thunderwolf Mount and 2-4 Thunderwolves and still keep most of the rest of your list in tact.

Sorry he asked about cc punch which I answered. He also asked for our thoughts: my own were about the nature of space wolves .
Not to question why but you thanked Gavin for questioning me .
Fluff for space wolves is that everyone is slightly different. I am not saying fluff is important or the build isn't pretty standard .

Not everyone needs to be slightly different. The fluff for Space Wolves is that they have a lot of heroic characters and that many of their leadership figures have distinct and different personalities and fighting styles. Battle Brothers are still organized into units, and those units are still equipped with standard equipment, but the HQ's should all be equipped differently to show their uniqueness, and the differences in their style of fighting. The Rune Priests are about the only thing that goes against that fluff.
