Subject: What are some good WHFB Battalions to buy?

Hey, I have been thinking of getting Warhammer fantasy and was hoping to get large armies quickly, batallions/battleforces are usually a good way of doing this but I know that sometimes they can be a little lackluster. I am looking for a batallion that is worth money wise, and contains units I will actually use, and not just proxy the heck out of them. I plan to get the Island of Blood box since it is just seems like a great way to start off. The armies I am looking at for myself are the Skaven, Warriors of Chaos, and Lizardmen so far. Most of the armies seem cool so I was just curious which batallions you guys think are worth it, thank you.

None of them are especially bad.
The WoC one, out of your choices, represents the best value for money and points.

I think that The WoC and Ogre Kingdoms battalion boxes are considered the top two for the money today.
As an Ogre player I can tell you without doubt that ALL models in the boxes are useful. The new Bn box we lost the Gnoblar, but you still get the big guys that we had before. And the nice thing is, with the bits that are on each sprue, you can make fewer or no "secondary" units ie. if you dont want leadbelchers, theres enough parts to make 2-4 more bulls.

It's definitely the Island of Blood boxed set. If you collect either Skaven or High Elves, it's a fantastic bargain.

IoB is the best buy.
If you want to play woc go for a battalion or even 2 its all you need knights (which are not the best in this edition but are super fun unless you want to power game they can give you quite a bit of extra punch).
Warriors since they are awesome.
Marauders cheap and with gw or flails are rocking str 5 ws 4 attacks.
Hounds can be used as hounds or converted into stuff for other stuff.
Win win.
Also ogres for sure that battalion is sweet and you save more than 50 bucks buying it rather than all the individual units.
And Iob those 3 are great buys.

I got myself a IoM box and a Skaven betalion, i of course splittet the IoM box with a HE friend so saved a little money
I would say those two boxes helped me alot. There is no unnecessary units. All usable.
Alot of times i see Betalions and other start boxes that has units that are not usable but we got nothing like that in the Betalion/ IoM box so it's deffinetly a good buy. And you do wanna try skaven
So go do it!

IoB for skaven is a great buy and the WoC battalion is amazing value for money. The LM one comes with cold one riders and a fair few people think they're pointless but seen a few advocate them.

WoC has to be the one of the best buys atm, althou the Empire one is not that bad either. I just wish thery could make the beastmen battlaion a bit more filling, for as of now it is severly lacking

The upside of the beastman one is everything will be used at least, but it's pretty slim savings on money :(

Lizardmen, WoC, Dark Elves seem the best value for money model-wise.
Skaven, VC's also seem like a good deal.
Good thing the Beastmen one is useful... seems like the worst of the lot.

I do not like the Vampire Counts box. The corpse cart, while cool, does not count toward the minimum core point %.
As for the zombies, Skeletons and Ghouls. Arguably the most useful are the ghouls. WS 3 Toughness 4, 2 poisoned attacks and int 3.
Skeletons are enough for a bunker unit or a decent start of a larger unit, but zombies are awful. Best used for summon fodder.
Empire on the other hand gives you 4 units that you will use, including their "elite" infantry unit of Great Swords.
Also you get 8 knights (core or special choice) 10 Handgunners/Xbows and 20 Spearmen/swordsmen/halberdiers
Very good deal.
