Would it be a viable option in any races codex to buy an assault ramp for transports at,say 15-20 points ? It was just a thought i had been mulling over for a few days.

I would say no, as this could create some potentially devestating add-ons to already powerful units.
Banshees being able to assault straight out of Wave Serpents
Purifiers charging straight out of Rhinos
etc

The OP means like what Land Raiders have, where the unit inside can still charge after the vehicle moves and the occupants disembark.
If your opponents are cool with it then I would say go for it, but personally I don't think I'd allow this in a friendly game.

Oh right, because god forbid we encourage elder players to take something besides fire dragons.
Ofc not all vehicles should get it, but elder have no vehicles they can assault out of, this is one of the reasons eldar close combat specialists are horrendously underpowered currently

One of these days I'll fiund time to learn lain...
I'd absolutely love an Eldar vehicle with assault ramps, I've made that clear a number of times with my local group. But that's just wishful thinking, who doesn't want to have a more powerful army?
As mentioned, units like banshees in a fast/skimmer/assault vehicle could potentially unbalance the game (er... more so), that or armies with overly cheep transports to begin with. I also think we'd start seeing even more vehicles in armies... which I think is a bad thing. So no, I'd be against this.

But a high I make them more or less always first IIRC, also don't they all have power swords or somthing?

They do. But they are T3 with a 4+ save. A HF to the face will destroy them, even bolter fire will cause a lot of greif as well.
They are next to useless against anything with T5-6 and totally useless against Walkers ect.
Against assault termies they will fail.
The only thing they are excel at is killing MEQ. But they run a very high risk of getting totally pasted once they are out of CC.

If memory serves correctly, many editions ago the Wave Serpent was the first thing to have an assault ramp -.^

This is correct. Although everyone could assault out of moving vehicles at the time.

Back in the day there was no assault phase, it was just hand to hand, and you couldn't fire first then assault, you had to declare a charge.

i got the impression that the OP played Eldar so it makes more sense to convert one model than change your entire army.
Eldar + Spikes = Dark Eldar!
