so i started a new night goblin tribe for armies on parade, i wanted the army to be highly themed, and thus unfortunately really limited in units, this was fine for armies on parade, and happily i won my local medal

i do now however wish to make this into a playable army!
does anyone have any advice for me on which units to get next and any great, or just plain fun tactics?
it might be worth mentioning at this point that i love to watch my goblins kill themselves as much as the enemy

my current line-up is as follows:
1 arachnarok complete with night goblin crew conversions
80 night goblins with spears /shields and netters
2 fanatics
1 wolf chariot (converted to night goblin squig chariot)
1 wyvern covered in night goblins (insert various fluff here, about it being useable in a legal game!)
20 night goblin archers
1 mangler squig
2 night goblin shamans/great shamans
1 night goblin big boss with battle standard

I am only willing to take the following units:
squig herds/hoppers
night goblins (obviously)
squig chariots
doom divers
bolt throwers
rock lobbers
spider riders
arachnaroks
all night goblin lords/heroes
mangler squigs

...comment away!
p.s. might start uploading some pics of my army's progress after i've finished with armies on parade next sunday...

should mention, i'm not asking for a pre-written army list, just some tips on which units are worth their cost and which play well together nowadays and such, as the last time i used goblins was in 5th edition, and they played very differently back then!

I certainly think it can work! Really, with your selection, you only use Orc blocks, which aren't needed. Now, because of this, you will be relying on the Arachnarok Spider and Manglers Squigs, etc to kill stuff, but you sure can Tarpit! With Hand Weapons, Shields and nets on about 50+ Goblins 5 wide, yeah, you're not going anywhere.

And the cheap heroes are a MAJOR benefit here as they can give better leadership in each unit for pratically no price. Take a Goblin hero with say, a Great Weapon, throw him in the unit and BAM, more leadership. Nice, cheap way to keep things going until the heavy hitters can slam home.

Have you also considered Trolls in the list? They can be great, durable heavy hitters.

The correct question is, would I be enjoying this hobby if I did this?

The correct audience is you.

The biggest problem you will have is leadership.
All night goblins means LD7, Ld8 if you put the general and BSB (with banner of discipline) in the same unit.
Going Ld8 helps a lot, but putting your general and BSB in 1 unit is just screaming "Nuke Me" with big magic spells.
If you can take special characters, take Skarsnik, just for the higher leadership.
I'd even sprinkle night goblin big bosses through most infantry units, just for the +1 LD, just in case.

thanks for the advice
yeah tarpitting seems to be the best tactic. with some fast flanking units too,
i have considered trolls, but they would break the theme of my army and to be honest, half of the reason for collecting this army is the looks plus the stupidity tests never work well for me!

thanks matt, yeah, i played a test game with most of my characters and bsb in a big unit of 80 night goblins and that was pretty much the result, they got spell bombed and my bsb got sniped, then they ran away
was thinking of taking an ork warboss for leadership and making some fluff about him being an overgrown night goblin (maybe sculpt night goblin robes on him for humour's sake)
though i am very hesitant to break the night goblin only theme

A couple of war machines maybe? Doom Divers are practically homing missiles and usually scare people enough, Spear Chukkas are CHEAP! I think you can't go wrong with 4-6 Chukkas. You could also convert the Rock Lobber to a Squig Lobber!
Trolls are actually very fit into a night goblin theme in my opinion.
Also I was looking for a picture but can't find it, I once saw a conversion of a Giant and there were goblins swarming all over him painting him green! That was awesome I tell you!

One giant unit seems like a lot of eggs in one basket. Like you said, spells and war machines can cause huge headaches. Maybe two units of forty? Maybe two units of fifty or Sixty? However you decide to do it, you should grab some more melee infantry.

I run 2 story (fluff) generals for my all Night Goblin Army.

the first one is i use 2 regular goblin Lords. Say they are brothers pretending to be Night Goblins.
I also use a similar story as you suggested with a black Orc. He was adopted by a previous Night Goblin lord who found him and he used him as a bodyguard. As he got bigger he adopted the Night Goblins sneakyness and killed his adopted parent and took control

mmmm that was a dodgy mushroom

I too am NG army boy.

A fun conversion might be regular trolls green stuffed with NG hoods and cloaks.

Skarsnick or a regular goblin lord is going to be my answer for general depending on the size of the army.

If you want a higher LD general, you could always model up a night goblins riding on an Orc, master-blaster style.

That could give you an LD9 center, and then sprinkle in a few night goblin warbosses on the flanks for LD7.

a definate must methinks, in the few practuice games i've had, my one big unit has faired pretty well, but all it takes is one bad combat resolution...
i think 2 units of 50 should do the trick, with big bosses divided equally

haha, that giant sounds quality! will be on the look out for it... i guess chukkas would be worth a shot, always preferred doom divers to rock lobbers, but a squig lobber sounds like a fun conversion
will probably make one just for fun... still not too sure about the trolls though... would prefer an extra squig herd instead probably...
i'll start posting some pics of my progress soon, just not had time due to having to prepare them for the armies on parade final...
