Very interesting. It seems the Ogres are a very solid book.

I like it.

Haha, brilliant look on the ogres. Extremely nasty charges you've got, all those wonderful impact hits. It would be interesting though to go against another ogre list just to see what they would do.

A note though on your last post on the WE, you mention "You're looking at the only Ogre casualties the entire game. " and a pic of 2 mournfangs. Yet you also mentioned about a dead ogre during the dryad combat

Are Ogres beast as heck or was that more a case of poor opponents/lucky dice? Because you completely smashed everyone there lol.

I've run 2 games with them. Both very close games, against very tough armies. Squeaked out wins, but it wasn't easy.
I haven't rolled a 10+ to charge yet either...

Just seemed like in almost every close combat the ogre units completely wiped out the enemy unit or broke them so bad they never came back. Just smashed through everything. It was almost like the ogre player had twice as many points or something lol, but in fact many times the ogre unit was cheaper than the enemy unit that it completely obliterated in 1 charge.

Ogres do let you put a ton of points into a small frontage. It's a huge combat advantage. I threw 5 man eaters at a block of 30 saurus warriors. The firebelly got a flaming sword on them to seal the deal. Got 4 from impact hits, ~14 from attacks, and 4 more with stomps. The surviving saurus had 1 rank like me (no rank bonus), and needless to say broke.
5 impact hits, 25 attacks, and 5 stomps is a lot more attacks then he expected, out of 5 ogres.

He had planned on using his Saurus heroes on cold ones to charge in and kill them; but the maneaters had other plans. One burst from the brace of handguns killed 2 saurus cav, leaving less than 5 rank and file. Cannon fire then killed the heroes, without the benefit of a look out roll.
I'm not sure if the best counter to ogres is bigger units, where you can take the charge and hold, or MSU, where you can redirect and flank.

I do know that Mournfangs are getting such a fearsome rep, that I'm keeping some in my army, just to draw attention away from the real threat, Maneaters with handguns.

It all depends on the match up. Mournfangs are really good at taking out Rank & File (and with swifstrider, and M8 they are fast too, usually turn 2 charge). Mournfang are NOT point and click kill everything, but if you can get the match up that is favorable they do the job better then anything in the OK book:

1) T3 (T4 is ok)
2) S4 or lower (try to avoid S5 or greater)
3) Rank 3 or less
4) Infantry, warbeasts, swarm models

If you have at least 2 of these its a favorable match up, if you have all of these then it's a no brainer. If you run Mournfang in a unit of 4 with HA, IF, Standard Bearer w/ Dragonhide Banner you have the potential for 56 attacks (majority are S5, with some auto-hits).

At least this is what I've found out.

Glad the new ogres are doing well for you, but i have to say something:

Your games have all been landslide victories to you, you achieve incredible amounts of damage with your units, always seem to get lucky, and consistently play against lists and opponents that are much less effecient than your own...

I was frustrated by your battle reports... It seemed like everything went your way in every single game you posted.

Now you may be a fantastic player, but I'd encourage you to seek out more competitive opponents if your games are consistently one sided.

Sorry to be a downer

Too bad you whacked both Lightning cannons on turn 1. Had they got a single turn of shooting, it would have made for a more interesting game. Those things just tear ogres apart.

Ogres win and lose big as a general rule. The units are also fairly individually expensive and have quite abit of power. The Hellpit was fighting over twice his points cost and against something that should have minced the Hellpit(flaming and poison is a brutal combo)

I just like to have a good game, but I am the most competitive of my gaming group.

There's not a lot of broken players here. And really I post these reports so that I can help other ogre players, and myself learn about the new book.

Nothing can stop hellpit if your opponent is rolling well... I learned that at ardboyz.

There is a difference between 1 Hellpit and 3 Hellpits, especially in the same combat

Great reports! The graphics definitely help clarify what exactly is going on.

I've been thinking about getting into Fantasy, and the OK especially, and these have been highly informative. Thanks!
