Aegis gives psykers targetting GK's a -1 penalty to their leadership for the purposes of passing a psychic test.
However I'm not sure how this work work for a Weirdboy. A Weirdboy rolls a psychic test BEFORE determining what power/target they use.
Example: Weridboy rolls psychic test and passes. He then rolls for his random power and gets Frazzle, which he targets at a GK unit. Does the Aegis have any effect since he already took a psychic test?

I would say it doesn't affect it because that would mean rolling a die from 2 rolls ago. That seems a little off to me.

I would also agree with the above. The leadership test is taken before targets are declared and the GK Aegis specifically says the -1 happens when a GK unit is targeted.

As above: at the time you take the psychic test there is no target for the power, therefore Aegis cannot be invoked.

I field Warpheads more often than Big Meks or Warbosses. There's just something about all the exciting carnage they can unleash onto the battlefield. And there's only a 1 in 36 chance of them exploding and taking half their unit with them each turn

I love using them in lists just to do something crazy and unexpected. I mean oh no I'm running a Kan wall with a BM with KFF. Or its a warboss with nob bikers. People have seen those lists now weirdboyz are just fun!

I actually can't wait till I get a more models and can field an apocalypse army. Just imagine the carnage of having 10 units of boyz, each with their own warphead

I too love taking a Warphead in a 20-30 strong mob of Shootas. The first time I ever used it I teleported right in front of a corner-deployed Tau army and blazed his army away. The next turn I pulled off a Zzap! on a Hammerhead, and it was just a mop-up job thereafter.
I mentioned this in an earlier thread, and I'm quite comfortable that the Aegis can't affect it.

I'm pretty sure no one fields Weirdboyz, but on the other hand I'm pretty sure plenty of people field Warpheadz. And The order of playing a weirdboy's powers creates a loophole in GK 's Aegis' rule.

Orkses is never defeated in battle. If we win we win, if we die we die fighting so it don't count. If we runs for it we don't die neither, cos we can come back for annuver go, see! |

Warpheads all the way, because who doesn't love +1 attack for everyone in a unit or an instant hitting 36 inch melta shot?
But yea, the weirdboy ignores the aegis for the reasons stated.

Actually this is a problem with all psykers everywhere. The Aegis effectively cannot function as written because in the rulebook you must pass a psychic power to USE a psychic power and you don't declare targets for powers until you're actually using the power.
Therefore, the Aegis, as written has no clear way to play against ANY psychic power, not the least of which includes Orks.
IMHO the best work-around to allow Aegis to function is to effectively allow any power that has any randomness involved with selecting a potential target to be resolved before taking the psychic test...if the randomness determines that the target of the power is a unit of Grey Knights with the 'Aegis' ability, then it takes effect (and you then take the psychic power with the -1 penalty)...if the randomness determines that the target of the power isn't a Grey Knight unit with the 'Aegis' ability (or the power doesn't target a specific unit) then the psychic test is then made on a the straight Ld value.
In other words, you have to 'fudge' the rules in order to make the Aegis work.
Of course the other alternative is to say that any power which has any kind of randomness to it (including randomly determined range, etc) cannot be affected by the Aegis...that 'fudge' works too, but just to be perfectly clear: the Aegis cannot function as currently written since all psychic powers that require a psychic test have their psychic test taken BEFORE the power can be used (at which point no target is declared).

For offensive psychic powers, don't you have to declare the target of the power before rolling the psychic test? Not many armies have random psyhic powers.
I.e. Imperial Guard Psyker Battle Squad decides to use Soulstorm (36" range pie plate psychic attack) against a unit of GK's. From what I understand since you are declaring your target before rolling the test and the target is a GK model, they would suffer the effects of Aegis.
I'm pretty sure you have to declare what psychic power you are using and who your target is BEFORE making the psychic test unless there is some random aspect to it like Weirdboyz get.
