So, the DE codex says that if a Cronos "kills" a model in an enemy squad, then it can give a pain token to a squad within 12". Normally, you know for sure one way or the other at the end of the shooting phase, so you distribute the pain token then (and you have it before assault). With a Necron, the model might come back to life at the beginning of the Necron player's movement phase.

So, do you put down a marker and distribute the pain token then, but only if it fails WBB? Do you say that the model has been "killed" but might "come back to life" and distributed the pain token at the normal time? Do you just not get pain tokens from Necrons?

Well, I'm not sure but Power from Pain requires a model to be removed from play. I assume cronos' kill requirement is the same. So I believe cronos distributes its pain token when the necron model fails its WBB.

That's interesting - so I get the pain token if they WBB into a different unit, but not if they WBB into their own. That seems sensible-ish.

Look at this way, since it says "model/unit" a "model" isn't destroyed until after WBB is failed BUT a "unit" IS destroyed if all models in it have been taken down regardless to whether they get WBB or not.

Yes, if you kill all models in a unit, that unit is destroyed and you get a pain token. When necrons WBB, their original unit is still destroyed, so they join another unit of the same type, and you keep the pain token.
