I have a friend who plays CSM and uses defilers. He does not glue the legs of the models in place and changes their positioning during the course of a game which results in them receiving cover saves due to the model better fitting behind pieces of terrain or his model having line of sight over a wall. From my understanding (and page 77 of the rule book) "If a walker does not have a base, measure to and from its hull (including its legs and other limbs)". So from what I understand, this would mean that the model's limbs and such constitute it's "base" and that modifying the placement of these is tantamount to swapping a model base made game.

Is he allowed to alter the limb positioning of the defiler legs mid game?

No, as he has no rules allowing him to.

Nope, however there is nothing truly against him sprawling them out prior to deployment.

I don't know if it is aloud by the rules, but it is definatly poor sportsmanship.

You are not allowed to manipulate the hull of a vehicle mid game, as there are no rules allowing for this.

You can move turrets and gun barrels because the rules allow for that movement.

Thanks guys, I suppose I was going about this all backwards. I was looking for a rule stating that you can't manipulate a model, I suppose I should have been doing the opposite and noticing that there is no rule that permits you to modify the positioning instead.

You can't manipulate anything about a vehicle besides it's turrets AFAIK. and the fact that he thought of doing this is a sign of poor sportsmanship

I would get out the glue and tell him it's time

Do you play 30k? It'd be a lot cooler if you did.

Wherever the Emperor commands.

on page 3 of the BRB it says "citadel miniatures are normal supplied with a plastic base. if so, they MUST be glued onto their bases before they can be used in the game"

but seeing how this model in particular dose not have a base... i think it would come down to the simple rule "unless it says you can do it, you cant do it"

IMO (like a bunch of people said) its just bad sportsman ship

going further.... one could say that you could make rules of it and actually use them in the game ( ie: forfeits shooting so his Defi can hide behind a wall)

Defliers don't have bases.

You aren't given permission to move anything on a model aside from the guns, of course this also means you technically can't do anything to a model after placing it on the table aside from moving it.

Same deal with doors on vehicles and drop pods.
