Me and 2 friends have been slowly buying WHFB armies. I choose brets. What is a good point level for learning the game? Is 500 point armies decent to start with or should we shoot for something higher?

Thanks
Steve

500 Is a little small I would say 750 800 is a good start then moving to 1k.

I also have to be really honest with you.
You will have a really hard time brets are the oldest army that hasnt been updated you will have a really hard time.
That being said the whfb is a really fun game and you will eventually get a new book.
So dont get discouraged if you dont do too well.

Also check out oncebitten360 on youtube he knows how to play brets well.

From what i read online brets are horrible under powered right now. That's okay because the main guy that i play with is so freaking good at 40k that i never beat him. So this would just continue that. Plus he is playing vamp counts with a spanking new book and the other player is playing wood elves.

I will tell everyone to put a 750 list together. I am going to do something very simple like 2 knights of the realm squads, some bowmen, a damsel, pali with banner and of course my lord. Hopefully i will put the actually number up here tonight.

Not for nothing i finished 1 unit of knights of the realm and wow they look awesome in a lance. I need to take photos of them. Its a shame that people around don't play fantasy as much as 40k. Each seem awesome we needed new models to paint.

Brets are actually quite good if you know how to use them. Either way good luck!

Veteran Sergeant wrote:In the grim darkness of the far future, the guy with a rifle is the weakest man on the battlefield, left to quake in terror, hoping the two or three shots he gets do the job before somebody runs screaming across the battlefield to hit him with an energized stick.

As a starter I would assume he does not know how to use them.
Just wanted to let him know what to expect and not have someone hate fantasy because of the army they chose to collect because over all fantasy is a blast even if you loose.

But yes they are not a you cant win army by any means it just takes time practice patience and luck.

Love the army you play and you will do well, maybe not right away but eventually. The best advice i ever got what don't pick your army based on your opponents pick it based off what you like to do.

put together a 1000 pt list once i realized i had plenty of models. tell me what you think. I am having a bit of a hard time picking the right virtues and vows. I wasn't sure about removing the horse from the damsel and keeping here with the Bowmen. I could play around with some points some more then.

Lord - Warhorse, Shield, Wyrmlance, Virtue of Purity - 177
Paladin - BSB - Warhorse, Banner of Chalons, Grail Vow, Virtue of Ideal - 127
Damsel - Warhorse, Dispell Scroll, Lore of Life - 95

KotR(8) - Musician, Standard, Banner of Chalons - 178
KotR(8) - Musician, Standard - 168

Bowmen(20) - Musician, Standard, Villein, Flaming Attacks, Skirmish - 165

Trebuchet - 90

Hmm...I believe that's pretty solid. I don't know too much about Brets, but I do believe in encouraging new WHFB players

With that said, a Damsel in a lance formation is quite good, as she can still cast her buffs and has the advantage of being protected in the second rank. It also helps ensure that her spells will always be in range of the forward units. With that said, putting her in the back with a bunker unit seems to be a pretty common choice.

The only other thing I can say is that, unless your Army Book says different, you can't have two of the same banner, so you wouldn't be able to put the Chalons on both your BSB and your KotR SB.

Ok, well, one more thing. I would be wary of putting all your characters in the same unit, as that makes them a very juicy target, and 11 models are not that durable.

Good Luck.
