Subject: XBox Live problem - Please tell me someone has an answer for this before I have to murder Microsoft.

When I bought my 360 I got a free 1-year prepaid card in the bundle from the retail sore. I set up my X-Box live account on the console and punched in the redeem code, and got my year of Live. So now, a year later, it's about to expire on the 28th and I want to renew it. Rather than go to the store and get a new card, I went to the website to put it on my credit card and set up auto-renew. Lo and behold, after all of my info has been entered, I click confirm purchase and get the following:
" This action cannot be performed at this time. Please try again later. For more information, go to http://www.xbox.com/support."
I figured it was a system issue and tried again later. Same problem. So I called Microsoft, and they tell me they don't even have a sales team. I can't give them money over the phone, and they cannot enter a card on their end. They have to use the system just like I do, and the system won't process my card. I tried with my PayPal account, and I get the exact same error message. This is starting to get very frustrating. I want to give them money, but because of some random system bug connected to my Live account, they cannot take it. I don't want to spend the money on a prepaid card either because if it doesn't accept the code due to this system error I cannot return the card for a refund.
So, has anyone had this problem with their X-Box Live account? If so, how did you fix it, or did you? Somebody must have an answer to this, because I refuse to believe that any company that actually wants its customers money would have such an idiotic system with no live sales team willing to take money over the phone when the website won't process my damn card!

I'm just hoping that it will allow that form of payment to credit time to my account. If not, I can't return the card so I'm out the money. Unfortunately it may be my only option.

I never saw the point of direct pay, it's more expensive.
I can get 14 months XBL gold for 50 bucks. Instead of 12 months for 60.

Pre-paid is actually better than attaching a credit card to an XBL account, avoids any "Unecessary" charges that might come up
But back on topic, you should have them check if there's any sort of restriction on your XBL account first and if there isn't call your CC Company if it's allowed to make online purchases if both are set to go and you still can't use the CC that means that specific CC can't be used for XBL purchases, it happens sometimes.

It might be because you are trying to renew early? The system might be thinking you are trying to have 2 subs at the same time.
Try waiting until the sub expires on 28th and then use the credit card the next day. It might go through then.

Ya, plus you should just let it expire. There's usually deals when you don't have gold, like 2 months for $2 or something like that.

you can actually set your membership to renew via credit card while still under a prepaid membership, the system won't charge your CC until the prepaid membership runs out first.
But all in all i'd recommend just going prepaid again instead of using a CC
