I've been trying to read through every codex and see who has the best fluff. Obviously space marines have the most fluff but who has the best in your opinion? So far my favorite has been the tyranids, specifically hive fleet behemoth.

Personaly I really like the idea of the Nightbringer, (Necron Ctan) being the reason that all other races fear death. And that he missed orks out which explains a lot about them.

So Necron Codex for me.

Gonna vote Necron, have a thing for those old as the universe style races. Lizardmen are my favorite in fantasy and they to fit that spectrum so at least I'm consistent

Orks. Space Marines. Necrons. No, wait, Lizardmen. Oooh, Bretonians.

Okay, honestly? I love them all. Except Tyranids and Chaos Space Marines.

Inquisition by far. They do a lot more than just fight wars. Space Marine fluff is pretty boring. The Inquistion side of the new GK codex is cool.

Imperial Guard: They are humanity surviving against bitter odds, where their only strength is in numbers and determination.

Orks: They are straight forward, brutal, and funny. Overwhelming odds are looked forward to as a good time.

Honestly tied between the two.

@ brother oops I must've missed it as I was going through the forum. I also really liked the necron fluff.

I want to like ig but I just can't for some reason. Which is odd because I like playing competitively. I guess the 'we're a bunch of average guys with tanks' just seems Ho hum. Space wolves and tau are pretty boring too. I have yet to read through the ork codex but I think they may be my next army already lol

It seems like you either love IG or hate Em. Your reason for disliking them is the same reason I love them. Nothing beats an army composed of mass amounts of infantry followed by divisions of tanks, and the part about them being average is the reason it's easy for me to get attached to them, because let's face it people, if we all lived in the 41st millennium 99% of us on this forum would all be Lowly guardsmen. The only dislike I have about IG is that they really don't have very cool looking hero units like other races, but that's only small for me.

Its what we do best. We die standing

I'd say that my faves were (haven't read new 40k fluff in years):

Chaos Space Marines (always been a sucker for the "fallen hero" trope)

Inquisition (well, more Inquisitor, but also the witch/demon hunters, for what they revealed about the setting)

Necrons (as others have said, some cool explanations of the world: the codex got me playing them, 'til I realized that the army was super-boring to play)

Imperial Guard (the little guys. I so wish that you could still incorporate inquisition elements in a Guard army, I love the idea of the ton of normal guys, with the scary black ops elements who work with them... either way, I still like the oldschool guardsmen)

My painted armies (40k, WM/H, Malifaux, Infinity...)

Necrons for me. The idea of the deceiver screwing with all the other races is just funny to me. i hope Ward doesnt screw it up too bad.

3rd Edition Chaos Space Marine Codex is really good.
So is the most recent Ork Codex.
And I've heard great things about the Necron Codex, but I've only been able to read snippets of it.

So I am not sure.
