I have 9 Kans that I run currently in my 1750 pt Kan wall army. My question is, would it be better to drop three of them for 2 Deff dreads and work out the point cost difference? Pros/cons?

Secondly; in a 2000 point army, are deff dreads a nice accompaniment, or a waste of points?

Keep all 9!
If your list includes a Big Mek w/KFF or 2 (I hope), then you can include the Deff Dread as a Troops Choice, which allows you to max out your heavy slots with Kanz!
Try your 1750 list with one to see how it goes for ya!
@ 2000pts, your Kan Wall should be including at least one, though if ya have 2 Big Mekz, then ya can have 2 Deff Dreads (as troop choices) in there which will give ya 11 walkers making a mess of things!
Enjoy

Honestly I run 6 kans and 3 dreadsin my 2k list. It has done me good. its really up to you. 9 kans and 2 dreads are fine a well. I wanted 3 dreads as i love the dread model. I also wantedf a 4 armed CC dread so I made him my 3rd Heavy.

I am alittle different with my army as I just shoot(for the most part) I try not to get into CC as I have bad luck in CC. So I shoot the crap out of people. There are alot o way you can go about it.

How about a list so we can see what you want to do or are thinking bout doing. Might help us help you better.

Rokkits or Big Shootas really up to you. For the Kanz you should make each unit all have the same weapons. So you want at least 6 to be anti armor rokkits or KMB, rokkits are cheaper, Grotzookas are cool too I would recommend them on 1 unit as well. Most people would advocate all 3 units have only rokkits. I like a mix of 'zookas, KMB and rokkits. If you have 6+ kans packing rokkits or KMB you could probably downgrade the boyz to big shootas, the kans with their higher BS should be taking down the armor along wigth those 'koptas. 1-3 units of 5 lootas would be good for expanding as would deffdreads which should probably be the last thing you add in to round out 2k+

Thus, After having thus successively taken each member of the community in its powerful grasp and fashioned him at will, the supreme power then extends its arm over the whole community. It covers the surface of society with a network of small complicated rules, minute and uniform, through which the most original minds and the most energetic characters cannot penetrate, to rise above the crowd. The will of man is not shattered, but softened, bent, and guided; men are seldom forced by it to act, but they are constantly restrained from acting. Such a power does not destroy, but it prevents existence; it does not tyrannize, but it compresses, enervates, extinguishes, and stupefies a people, till each nation is reduced to nothing better than a flock of timid and industrious animals, of which the government is the shepherd

I would have to agree with Hargus. They kans should be the same. At the very least the same weapon style, ie anti tank or anti infantry. I useally run my Kans with rokkits. With there added BS it really helps them alot. Grotsookas are mean though so if you run all 9 Kans for sure one squad being Zookas would be awesome.

I think the Koptas are a nice idea, but I have not had luck with them at all. They seem to not hit for me even with the T-L and then they die. But the one thing I do like about them is they are a fire magnet for most. They can't let themn fly around all game so they do shoot at them. Which in turn helps the kans and other stuff survive.

I only run 20 man squads I feel that 20 is more then enough. They are getting 4+ covers from all the Kans in front of them. What do you have on yojur boyz? I run mine with shootas.

Here is my list at 2k. I run a different list then most but it does work and works darn well. So here it is.

2x Mek, KFF
2x15 Lootas
7 Meganobs
3x20 Boys 2xBshootas nob PK
2x dread w2xBshootas
2x 3 Kans rokkits
Dread 4x DCCW

This is what I run.

Good luck!

Wow that is one of the more oddball lists I have seen. How do the meganobz fit in? On foot? Also liking the 3 dreads, do you line them up on "the wall" with a KFF behind them?

Lootas come in very handy and should be in a kan wall to help pop transports and the like. I agree with everyone about having a single weapon selection in your kan unit.

To find points for lootas you can drop a buzzcopta. 2 is usually enough.

I love the dread idea, I use him @ the high point Kan wall lists, because it doesnt take up heavy slots. But yeah @ 1500 you can squeeze in some lootas. Also dont let anybody tell you KMB is not worth it, it has saved me from 2+ monstrous creatures or BA deathball matches for 15 points per 3 kans you got a good viable shooting threat for >T4, 2+ and AV's.

KMB vs. Rokkits often depends on your local meta.

I'd personally go 9 Kanz and be tempted to drop a suicide kopta or two and/or switch some rokkits to big shootas to add a dread. I'd keep 9 kanz though, they help shield your boyz.

I run the Kans on the outside with the 3 Dreads in the middle. The meganobs walk along behind the Dreads. Running if need be. Of course the boys are behind the wall of walkers and I keep one squad in reseerve. This helps me not only fool the other player seeing only 40 boys on table but they come on late game (hopefully) and and take the home objective or any other one that they can. The Meganobs provide another scare tactic to my list. What else is stompier then Meganobs behind Dreads and Kans? They useally get into CC which really is my only CC besides the 4 CC Dread.

I shoot with everything. I don't really try to get into CC if I can help it. My list is very shooty and I make sure I keep it that way. Silly I know but it works and I have fun with it.

Here is a little look see to my line up

KKKdDdKKK
BMB..N..BMB
...LLL....LLL...

K=Kans
d=shooty Dread
D=CCW Dread
B=Boys
M=Meks
N=Meganobs
L=Lootas

Obviously it is a bit more spread out and all that but this gets the point across.

I like running the KFF with some boyz in a trukk, because the trukk gets 4+ and large blasts do not mess up your gak

I love Balsak's oddball Kan Wall list. If I had more Lootas, some Meganobs and a third Dread I'd be trying it out myself. My Kan Wall list needs work at 2000 points but it's awesome at 1500. I think Meganobs might be where it's at the next time I do a 2000 pt game, but I haven't converted any yet.

Instead of Deffkoptas I run Rokkit Buggies. They're fast, resilient, accurate, and cheap.

3 x Rokkit Kans
6 x Grotzooka Kans
2 x Deff Dreads (Skorcha + DCCW)
2 x 2 Rokkit Buggies
1 x Skorcha Buggy
3 x 20 Boyz
2 x Big Mek w/ KFF

Love my kan wall, favorite army for me...

At 2k I run:

2 big meks, kff

3 units of slugga boys, all with nob and pk

1 unit of 29 boys(to fit points in) with nob and pk

2 deff dreads, 2 rokkits on each

3 units of 3 rokkit buggies, cheap, effective, and TL

3 units of 3 rokkit kans

Super effective, making max use of the kff with 20 vehicles to get that 4+. Durable, nasty, decent shooty, super choppy, super durable.

EDIT: I don't equip boys with special weapons as the boys should be running, not shooting.

Victory is not the most important outcome. Enjoyment and excitement is the best outcome, victory is sweeter when it was fun.
