So I am still rather new to this whole 40k scene. I started about 2 months ago and have been pushing out some decent material, I think. A lot of the comments that I get, however always saying good work, also mention about thinning out my paint and such. How would one do that? I'm still not sure of all the little tricks out there for painting these things so please throw all advice at me at once! Thinning and highlighting are the 2 things I am just to sure at all about. If someone would not mind enlightening me, that would be super!!! Thank you

Assuming you use acrylic paint you can thin it with clean water.
If you want to thin it a lot, get a bottle of acrylic medium. This will restore the binding agent that gets diluted too far by water.

It should be about the consistency of milk on the palette (thin on the palette, not in the pot, if you can help it) for the best control, usually.

To thin my paints I usually use a mix of Distilled water and Flow Aid in a 10:1 mix.
Your looking for the consistancy of cream.

I have been experimenting with this recently also. I picked up a couple dozen little plastic paint pots with lids and some liquitex flow aid. I add some paint and a drop or two of flow aid and it seems to work well.

I would caution against using straight flow aid, if the consentration in the paint becomes to high your paint will no longer dry correctly.

Once I dab the paint onto the pallette I dab a brush full of clean water into 2-3 dabs of paint, that usually makes it just right. When you are starting out, err on the side of thinner, and more water.
