Hey all, I've been thinking about painting all the Goblins I've been hoarding for years now, and I think the Forest Goblins make for an interesting idea.

So I came up with this 1500pts army. I have little experience with WHFB, so any advice might be useful. The environment I'd play in is friendly, and not that competitive.

I want the theme to keep around the Spider Riders and Arachnorok, but otherwise I'm open to suggestion. The Savage Orcs unit serves a "fluff" purpose, it represent a small Savage Orcs warband, attracted to the Army by the worship of the Spiders. And I like the models, so that'd be a good opportunity to buy a box lol !

Here we go :

Lords & Heroes - 362pts :

- Snagla special character - 115pts (Rides with the 19-strong Spider Riders)
- Goblin Big Boss, BSB, Gigantic Spider - 100pts (also rides with the 19-strong Spider Riders)
- Goblin Chaman - 55pts (Walks with the large Goblin regiment)
- Goblin Chaman, Lvl2, Wolf - 92pts (Rides with the 9-strong Spider Riders)

Core Units - 748pts

- 19 Goblin Spider Riders, Command, Bows - 296pts
- 9 Goblin Spider Riders, Command, Bows - 156pts
- 39 Goblins, Spears, Shields, Command, 3 Nasty Skulkers - 216pts
- 10 Savage Orcs, Bows - 90pts

Special Units - 70pts :

2 Goblin Spear Chukkas - 70pts

Rare Units - 320pts :

Arachnorok, Flinger - 320pts

Total : 1500pts

Remarks :
- I am not sure about the Heroes' assignments to the regiments. Maybe it'd be better to have the Goblin Big Boss on Gigantic Spider with the small Spider Riders ?
- The small Savage Orcs unit is supposed to protect the Spear Chukkas from units infiltrating, flanking, or coming out of the sand. Maybe a regular small Orc unit, with Boss and Bows, would fit the job better ? Savage Orcs just feel "right" in such an army, IMHO, but the Frenzy might hinder their "protect the backyard" role, no?
- I couldn't make the cut on enough to afford magical objects, and I don't have my rulebook with me right now... Any suggestion ?

Hey, thanks for the advice.

Sorry for the "Arrer Boyz", I couldn't recall the phrasing in English.

For that small unit, I'd want them to sit back & protect the Spear Chukkas from the kind of units like Khemri Scorpions, Skaven Gutter Runners, etc... I think a 10-strong unit could be enough to take care of them (as they are Orks), and giving them bows means 1. they can help the main fight from afar, if no threat for the Spear Chukkas 2. Against a threat, turn and fire for one turn, then charge the next.

Is my reasoning utterly wrong?

As for the Savage Orcs, what's the point in the bow option, if frenzy makes them counter-productive ? Frenzy doesn't prevent them from firing, does it? I'm genuinely asking, sorry if I seem dumb.

Ok, thanks... FordPrefect, your mathhammer is convincing lol...

So first option is : Savage Orcs with extra hand weapon. Fits the fluff, and is more effective.

As other options for those 90pts :
- another small, 5-man Goblin Spider unit ? 60 pts, and leaves an extra 30pts for bows, command OR magic items on the characters ?
- A River Troll (45pts) with a Goblin Big Boss (35pts), leaves 10pts for a magic item ?
- Forfeit this, and enjoy 90pts for Lords and Heroes magic items ?

Any hint ?

Most of the "backyard" threats cannot charge on the turn they come into play, can they ? So if I move my Orcs in the way, I might even be able to prevent the Chukkas from being charged ?

Well, actually you're pretty right, I cannot put the BSB in that unit too ! ! !

Damn...

So I guess my only choice is to put the BSB on gigantic spider in the 10-strong Spider Riders unit, along with the Shaman?

Also realized I had listed the Core units as 10 pts lower - so cannot afford bows or extra hand weapons either way on the Savage Orcs, unless I drop something else !

Maybe a Spider Rider or two in the smallest unit? As I only need 7 to get a bonus rank (the Boss on Gigantic Spider + Shaman on wolf taking up 3 "slots")...

Well, I pretty much want a Spider-oriented army, from the 'small' Giant Spiders to the Arachnorok...

Why is the flinger useless ?

Also, in 1500pts games, I was thinking it could do a bit more than 'warmachine hunting'...
