So I'm going to be painting some Vanguard Veterans and I thought it would be a good idea to make their helmets gold like in the codex. Now I know that Glorious Gold is probably the best way to go about painting the helmet, but since I'm relatively newbish to painting I'm not sure how to go about highlighting it. Any help or comments would be appreciated.

You use another metallic to highlight the base coat. So for example, with Boltgun Metal, you would use Mithril Silver or Chainmail to highlight it.

Now in the case of Glorious Gold, I think you'd be better off doing a Wash of Badab Black/Devlan Mud and then painting the color on again, leaving the wash in the crevices.

Lately I have been really happy with golds that are painted with mithril, and the washes with 3 to 4 coats of Sepia, it produces a nice antique looking gold finish.

I too wash with sepia/brown. And gold looks surprisimgly good when lightly highlighted with a more silvery shade of gold.

You could get Vallejos Liquid Gold Range if you plan to use them a lot. They are alcohol based and a pain to work with compared to the acrylics you have already - but boy oh boy, they are by far the best metallic colors I've ever worked with!

Check out my Warmachine and Malifaux painting blog at http://ik-painter.blogspot.com/

As always, enjoy and have fun!

Thanks for the link Tech Guard! That tutorial was incredibly helpful since I had no idea that Tin Bitz would look so good with Shining Gold when applied sparingly. I'm definitely going to be giving it a shot since all 3 of you recommended to do the same thing!

I had no idea Vallejo had such a line of colors. I might have to check it out once I get more money.
