Hey guys,

the topic says it all. How do you dakkaists avoid the dreaded dry-tip while airbrushing? I've had some success with thinning my paints with Liquitex Airbush Medium, but still get the occasional problems when brushing.

So gather round everyone and share your mixtures, secrets and techniques :-).

Cheers,

Well, during long painting sessions, there's not much else to do then just hold a cleanup break from time to time.
Spray clear water through and use a cotton stick to clean the nozzle, but be sure that you retract the needle before sticking the swab into the nozzle.

It takes a few minutes but it's better than having the entire airbrush clogging up.

For the love of Russ, people gotta start remembering this

Acrylic Retarder:
-Lengthens drying time of acrylic based paints, usually used when wet blending or airbrushing, when optimal drying time is longer than actual drying time. Potent stuff, follow directions provided to the T.

Google it up dude, see what you can find in your region.

Why is it that only those who have never fought in a battle are so eager to be in one?

I keep a little cup of windex handy and some q-tips. Every now and then I dip the q-tip in the windex, and clean the nozzle.

I've found that with just windex as a thinner I get less tip dry. And if its a problem I add retarder. Long session require a quick qtip every ten minutes or as needed.
