this is a pretty vague question.....what were you expecting it to do, and what effect are you trying to achieve?

Im looking for some shading and all around just a better look then paint alone. Maybe a little gritty look im not sure. Im looking for tips on applying it to make sure im doing it right before I just give up on coating all together. Amount, thinkness, Ect.

Devlan Mud is best for resembling "dirt". For shading I recommend Coat d“Arms Super Shader. Depending on the colour scheme you should either go for Dark Brown or Black version.

to apply it you just take it from the pot and put it on the mini

the amount depends on the strenght of the effect you want to accomplish.

LOOK!! a shameless self-promotion! (gasp!)

If your trying to get more in the recesses then maybe water it down a bit, that's what I usually do.

Keep applying more until you get the result you want. But note that Mud wash isn't all that good for shading, I'd recommend the black one instead with the mud to add grit here and there.

Also don't be afraid to let it pool in recessed areas.

Depends on the base colour - I find Devlan great for shading yellows, oranges and reds, but I'd use Badab Black on blues for example.

Re how much to put on, definitely do some tests on spare models - you get different results depending on how much wash you apply, and in some cases can wipe off excess wash for additional variations. Washes work best on models with lots of surface texture, and worst on big flat areas.
