Do you think it should be a good thing for a beginner?

If you want either of those factions then yes. You get something like 20 or 21 points per side so your over half way to having a legitimate 35 point army and depending on what you decide on has a good chance of being under $150.

It's an amazing value. You'll have to want to play either of those factions, obviously, but you can't question the value!

Yeah, I keep thinking that maybe I want this even though I
already own two Vanqs, a Crusader, a Juggernaut and a
destroyer (not to mention two kreoss models and two sorscha
models).

However, you get four heavy warjacks in the box. Each one
sold separately would be 35 bucks a piece. And with new
character 'jacks being based off the plastic kits, I can see
this box being great value as I save the parts for use with
the character upgrades. So instead of building a Destroyer I
use the parts with the upgrade kit to make Black Ivan.

Great. You've gotten me to talk myself into reconsidering
this purchase.

Only thing with using the kits as conversion fodder for character
'jacks is that you don't get all parts, so to build torch you'd
still need the decimator gun.

This was exactly what I planned to do. I'm definitely keeping the Menoth half for myself, and have thought about selling/trading the Khador if I can't find someone locally to straight split the cost. I may end up just keeping them and playing Khador in the next slow grow, but we'll see. I believe (and may be wrong) that I can just get the Scourge of Heresy, and Blood of Martyrs kits without needing any parts from the other plastic Heavy. At least I hope so, since that's always been my plan for the Menoth half, I have old metals of the heavies, and I like the metal ones better. Will definitely appreciate a Kreoss I can paint from start, since I started with a used battlebox and had to strip the one I have now.

Excited for this to release, disappointed it won't be on sale this week.

From a gameplay point of view, the Cinerators and Shock Troopers are a great way to introduce people to the troops aspect of the game as well.

It does give the illusion of a bit more solidity to your foot troops than you might otherwise see, but they avoid some of the more complex rules that you see on other models (Shocktroopers don't have to worry about Backswing / Ice Breaker choice like Demo-Corps does, and Cinerators don't have to worry about wound allocation like Bastions do). While I think that for overall game value Bastions might have been a better choice, I think that Cinerators are the right choice for a starter box.

Warjack choices are pretty good, and I have to thumbs up PP for giving Menoth a second heavy, especially with Khador having two in their starter. Sticking with the base battle box might have been a good idea, but it does leave Menoth at a slight disadvantage going against two Khador heavies with only one armor cracker of their own. Plus the ranged aspects of both sides means that its rare to see the heavy infantry falling over from splash damage, but they might be vulnerable to a direct hit.

Oh its also an insane value for what you get. Something like $350 worth of models bought separately I think. Might pick one up if I ever start Menoth or Khador, as the mini rules book would be nice so I don't need to lug Prime around all the time.

Another great thing for a starter kit is if you magnetize you only will need to buy 1 heavy jack kit, unless you plan to go with the Character jacks, heck even then you'll want the plastic kit for the extra options.

The mini rulebook is a great option. Prime unbalances my portable warfare bag when it is in the front pocket.

I think the total price if all the *models* are bought separately is around $200 - that's not counting the mini rulebook, the NQ introduction edition, the Iron Kingdoms background primer, etc.

Even splitting this 4 ways is a great deal - each person pays $25 and gets a choice of 5 heavy infantry or the warjacks/warcaster. At least, that'd be my ideal way of splitting it that way. GREAT value for the $$$.

I will definitely be picking this up. One of my sons plays Khador, we'll keep Menoth for a ' house' army, and I want the mini book.
Sad to see they swapped out Bombadiers for Shocktroopers and TFG for Cinerators though.

Bolded is what just happened in my head as well, so I just made sure I got my xmas gift instead of asking for one to be gifted to me, again. I could possibly let my buddy have the Khador, but what might actually happen is that I bury it inside a bunker with those other things I said I might share.

The same thing went through my head, but then again I made sure I got what I wanted for xmas. I could possibly let my buddy have the Khador, or just hoard them in some secret underground bunker.

I'm debating splitting the cost with a friend and grabbing out the Khador or just getting the whole thing for myself. Either way, it's a good deal.

I'm very likely getting it. I'm starting the game as Menoth, and comparing it to the "starter box" it seems I'd be saving money getting the 2 player even if I don't use the Khador at all (which I likely will along the road, I like their infantry). Even if I don't use the Khador ever, I can likely sell it to someone.

It's essentially 2 light jacks, a heavy, and a warcaster for 50 MSRP

Or 3 heavy jacks, a unit, and a warcaster + mini rule book + various other little things needed

AND two khador jacks, unit, and warcaster.

For double the price.

The only question for me is whether I'm splitting the cost with a mate or just getting both factions in a greedy orgy of plastic steampowered goodness.

went halfsies with a local paint monkey for the khador portion. already have the khador stuff, but i get the rulebook, which i am sure will sell for a decent sum in the secondary market.

I bought mine just for the rulebook.

I am not planning on keeping both armies, but you never know. I am going to turn them into 35 point armies, paint them and then either trade them to my buddies or sell them.

But you should be able to sell the straight plastic models. You should be able to sell either army for $50+ and that will pay a huge chunk of the box set.
