THE BUZZ: After a “Dead Space 3″ logo leaked last week, it seems that we now have a first set of game details to go along with that logo.
Warning: The below may contain spoilers about Dead Space 3. Read at your own risk!
The first point mentioned about the game is quite interesting: instead of taking place aboard a spaceship, Dead Space 3 will instead play out on the icy planet of Tau Volantis. As the game begins, Dead Space protagonist Isaac crash lands on the wintery world, where he attempts to survive the harsh conditions by taking shelter in an abandoned station.
At the station, he finds a nearly-dead human, one who tells him that a group of survivors—which includes Ellie, a character from the original Dead Space—took off for another of the planet’s stations in hopes of survival.
Further on in the game, according to the report, Isaac will not only be reunited with Ellie, but will also meet Jennifer, a new “tech type” character. Jennifer is trying to reverse engineer the work done by a group called “Rosetta” in order to gain access to a codex found (presumably) on the planet.
The final detail in this leak is that the foes of Dead Space 3 are being referred to as “the hive mind”.
EGM’s TAKE: After loving the original Dead Space, I shamefully have not gotten to its sequel yet. If these details are indeed accurate, I’ll have to do so post-haste, as Dead Space 3 is sounding right up my alley. I love games that deal with surviving snow-covered planets, and knowing the Dead Space team, they could do some awesome things with the idea.
Interesting if true. I actually think a little bit of Lost Planet could go well with dead space. At the same time, I really missed the zero g moments from the first game and don't see how they'll bring them back if the game takes place on a planet without going a little into the weird. Or maybe they'll introduce a new mechanic to replace the jet boots?
I've liked both Dead Space games so far, the first a little more than the second, and am excited for another myself. Hoping for some kind of coop survival mode to play with buddies.
I love both Deadspace's, and I honestly don't care about the Z-G, it was just kind of there for me. I'm honestly thinking of Zero Visibility Blizzard moments, which would be totally awesome if done right.
Also, some installation maintanence area's could be Z-G or something, no?
I personally had mixed feelings about multiplayer in the second one; on one hand, I hated how you HAD to have a coordinated team in order to do anything; it made Solo Slarg a Sad Panda. Also I hated how you could be level 5 and run into level 60's or whatever the max was. Stasis was overpowered, as well. Despite all this, when you got into a good game, it was glorious.

The Dead Space series has basically filled the void in my soul that was left when the last 4 or so Silent Hill games sucked.... hopefully the new SH doesn't suck, but thats neither here nor there.
That being said; this is an interesting turn of events. The team always comes up with such awesome ambience in their games and it will be interesting to see how it translates to something where your not in the void of space lol!

I think dead space needs a co op horde/survival mode separate from the campaign.
Multiplayer in DS2 was only fun as the security team, it bored me when I had to play as the necromorphes, it was impossible to do anything against a half decent team.
This sounds interesting though, but I don't see how it's gonna be scary, probably because I don't know what these new bad guys are.
Its what we do best. We die standing
"The Gods of Chaos are just like real human emotions, I mean when your Khorne your angry, when your Nurgle your sick, when your Slaanesh your horney, and when your Tzeench....YOUR SHOOTING DOOMBOLTS OUT OF YOUR HANDS...
The beginning of the game is Isaac looking for Ellie (The merc pilot from DS2)
You can "Duct Tape" weapons together. Instead of having Primary and Alt fire modes, you can Primary fire a Ripper, and Alt Fire a Line gun as an example.
The game has 2 Player Co-op, one player being Isaac, and the other being the new guy to the series who has lost a son to the Necromorphs/unitologists and is described as "Angry" and "Less Human" than Isaac.
Co-Op is drop in/drop out, and takes away most of the scares. Visceral recommends playing it once solo, and THEN going into Co-op.
We get to see what happens when a human is desperate enough to eat Necromorph Flesh.

The centre of a massive brood chamber, heaving and pulsating.
I haven't even played Dead Space and it gave me nightmares.
Argh.

Eh, it was more "jump at you" scary than legit scary like call of cthulu
I found 2 just, not scary at all , there were no new enemies, the sections like the needle in the eye were forced and silly, the dude constantly taking any reason to take off his helmet and chat for a while got obnoxious.
1 was really only scary because it was the first time you fight everything, i remember the first time I shot apart one of the ones that multiply into misc bits I was like "gah!" lol

True, I agree, but it was a hell of a lot better than the first one at making you jump. I don't see how you can say no new enemies, though; there were the babies and the birds, both legitamitly freaky.
