I am wondering what sort of lamp Dakka people use to paint by. This is probably aimed more at British users as i am after advice about specific products available to buy.
I have been using a run of the mill desktop lamp up untill recently but find it gives off a yellowish tinge to the models and gives me a bit of eye strain.
I am thinking of maybe spending a bit more and getting a desktop or maybe floorstanding lamp of better quality.
Any lamp connoisseurs out there?

I got a nice big ring lamp with a magnifier from hobbycraft. Daylight range bulbs are the order of the day.

I use this:

Probably going to pick up another one shortly, it provides good lighting where I need it relativly cheaply.

I have one of these.
Put out a lot of light, clamp onto the desk, have a very long cable so you can put them wherever you want, and do not get too hot and are nice and cheap.

I use a daylight anglepoise lamp, with a desk clamp.
But they seem to have been replaced with superbright LED setups.

Its more of a blue/white light.
Better for painting, far less likely to cause eye strain.
Though breaks are still a good idea.
I've heard paint and paper artists tend to use one yellow toned, and one blue toned lamp, but thats getting a bit too ott for minis.

theres a not so bad LED lamp in argos that give pretty good white light

i also use an upright lamp from argos the most but it gives off quite a bit heat and can get a bit uncomfortable sitting under it for to long. just had a look and they no longer sell the upright i got from them. Automatically Appended Next Post: o yeah and regarding the daylight bulb, it gives you a truer view of the colours compared to a yellow/generic house bulb.

I made a stand for an aquarium light with a daylight bulb out of scrab 2x4. Got the light for free from someone cleaning out a storage unit.

I got my lamp from B&Q, standard desk lamp with good positioning ability. Got a energy-saving daylight bulb for it, which has a few good points: it'll save you money as the bulb will last for a lot longer and it doesn't really get hot, allowing you to reposition it easily without burning your fingers and to get close to the light without melting a plastic model.
Downside is that you can't use it to dry paint/inks faster any more though. I'd get a fairly high wattage (for energy-savers) bulb for a bright light while you're working, mine is 60watts equivalent.

Any lamp with a daylight globe should get the job done nice and easy. Another good alternative is the LED lamps.
