I was just updating the Black Ocean's Facebook page and while "liking" various Sci Fi movies I realized that there is something that has not been asked here.
What are your favorite Sci Fi Space Battles.
I'd love to know as that is the reason we all play this game, to make a new epic battle.
Waiting for my shill money from Spiral Arm Studios
Currently, the Battle of Coruscant in Revenge of the Sith.
it actually approached 40k in terms of scale.
Once we get a proper 40k space battle on the big screen it will change.

Cato Sicarius, after force feeding Captain Ventris a copy of the Codex Astartes for having the audacity to play Deathwatch, chokes to death on his own D-baggery after finding Calgar assembling his new Eldar army.
The Battle of the Line from Babylon 5 is always a favorite. As are some of the late Shadow War scenes where the good guys actually get to do stuff, and the final messed up fight to get to Earth to overthrow Clark...
Working on someting you'll either love or hate. Hopefully to be revealed by November.

i'm a sucker for the Battle of Endor from Return of the Jedi. It was really good stuff for the time it was made. Also, i saw it a kid and it cemented my love for all things outside of the realm of 'real' as far as our modern time is concerned.
Robotech had some amazing space battles too, but i can't recall any names off the top of my head.

My favorite is still the Battle in the Mutara Nebula in Star Trek II: TWoK. I LOVE that short, but awesome fight. In fact, I like all the quick skirmishes/battles in that movie.

Oh wait does serenity not get any mention in this thread? That entire battle scene between the reavers and the Alliance was epic! Or the mass effect space battle.

From whom are unforgiven we bring the mercy of war.
Well, I thought that the mass space battles from the Dominion War on DS9 were pretty cool. Also, the Rainbow Nebula battle from Star Blazers/Space Battleship Yamato was simply...epic.
1. SW:RotJ - Death Star 2 battle, simply awesome in scope.
2. ST-DS9 - "Favour the bold" Fleet battle. It takes the cake for cruiser on cruiser action.
3. Starship Operators: the whole amine series is 1 big space battle done right, space is big - long range sniping and sound tactics win
Probably the Battle of the Bazen Rift that takes up the latter portion of Star Trek: Nemesis, with the opening of the final mission of Mass Effect 2 and the Battle of Endor taking second and third.

I agree.
Tali'Zorah: I appreciate what you're doing here, Shepard.
Commander Shepard: Well, I care deeply about the quarian people.
Tali'Zorah: It's good to be back on the Normandy.
Commander Shepard: Let me know if it's too quiet for you to sleep, and I'll find you someplace louder.
Tali'Zorah: Hmm.
Garrus Vakarian: Uh, I was there when you two had your thing, remember? Just get a room and work it out.
1: Battle over Coruscant in Revenge of the Sith. Gigantic in scale, and you still get to see the effects on the little guys, like the gunners and fighter pilots.
2: Battle of Endor in Return of the Jedi. The classics are still the best!
3: Battle of Deep Space 9 in "Way of the Warrior." The masses Kilngon battle fleet, comprised of the newest battle cruiser all the way down to the old D7 cruisers from the Original Series. Freakin' epic!

I definitely forgot the Severed Dreams fight. It's a great fight not because of the action (which is good) but because the emotions behind it were really built up.
For background, the Babylon 5 crew had been forced to declare independence from a corrupt Earth government. Unlike a lot of shows, this was handled very realistically: With a few exceptions, Earth forces were still generally honorable, unwilling to slaughter civilians, etc. Only a few units had the pseudo-nazi stormtrooper types, mad scientists, etc. that we associate with 'evil.'
They sent the 'nice' ones to deal with the renegade B5 station. This made the fight really rough as everyone was pretty likable. B5 wins, but then then Earth reinforcement fleet arrives. it looks like it's a slam-dunk for Earth at this point, but then the Minbari show up to declare their support.
The Minbari had been established by this point as the 'Elves' of the setting in almost every sense. They're longer lived, stronger, smarter, more advanced. We had a fight with them once years before which went very badly. Earth tech couldn't even get a lock on Minbari ships most of the time. Earth took out one ship and the only reason the Earth wasn't destroyed was the Minbari's sudden, mysterious surrender.
Which led to this exchange:
Delenn: [Delenn's fleet arrives after Earth Alliance attacks B5] This is Ambassador Delenn of the Minbari. Babylon 5 is under our protection. Withdraw or be destroyed!
Earth Force Officer: Negative! We have authority here. Do not force us to engage your ship.
Delenn: Why not? Only one human captain has ever survived battle with a Minbari Fleet. He is behind me. You are in front of me. If you value your lives, be somewhere else!

Did anyone ever play the freespace games? I loved those games. They had great space battles with huge capital ships and beam cannons. All the while you're in a tiny figher craft or bomber trying not to be blasted while taking out enemy ships or trying to destroy the enemy capital ship subsystems.
I wish they still made space combat games :(

We love what we love. Reason does not enter into it. In many ways, unwise love is the truest love. Anyone can love a thing because. That's as easy as putting a penny in your pocket. But to love something despite. To know the flaws and love them too. That is rare and pure and perfect.

Absolutely, man was that game good! And the opening sequence was ace!
Other than that all star wars space battles are good as are the battlestar galactica ones but especially the first one in the feature length that starts the entire thing off......so many guns on one ship......
Obviously never put to screen Id have to say the space battle that I imagine as incredibly epic is the Battle of Circe from 40k.
Onscreen though,
The final one in Battlestar Galatica when they jump right infront of the bay star. The lead in and execution really gives a sense of the desperation of the mission. Never watched much of that series but I did watch the finale and I just like that battle.
