Just getting into Orks but in a 'ard way! I'm wanting to build a green tide army that can match up against Space Marines and Space Wolves. The Space Marines would be very terminator heavy, with a tank or two so I'm wanting to focus around that. I know two things right off the bat that I do want, one would be Ghazghkull Thraka, the other an Ork Big Mek with Kustom Force Field. I feel that will help to charge da boyz and keep em a bit safer. I don't have much to work with so far but I'm needing to know where to spread my teefs. I have the orks from the AoBR box so boyz, nobz, a warboss, and three deffkoptas. I also have the Ork Battleforce box with a few more boyz (with options), warbikers, and a trukk. I figure the truck can come in handy to get Thraka where he needs to be. Other than that I'm up in the air. I'm totally new to the hobby so any help is greatly appreciated. I'm not sure if I should be leaning towards sluggas or shootas but I for some reason am leaning toward the sluggas. I may be completely wrong. Can someone give me a 1500 pt spread with these factors in mind? Automatically Appended Next Post: Also I would like to get some Kommandos w/ Snikrot in there. I am thinking Lootas and/or Burnas as well. I don't know what ratio to go with though.

I'm not an Ork player myself, but from what I've seen, don't forget to upgrade the Boy to a Nob in your big groups and give 'em a Power Klaw. Those will pop most tanks and the like. Also, green tide should be pretty decent against Termies. The shear number of attacks will overrun them. From what I hear, Lootas are good. Lots of attacks.

You should buy a nobz box. You they convert your nobs to wound allocation nightmare with painboy. Also as has been mentioned get nobs with power klaws and maybe bosspoles for your boyz.
Truth is tanks, BA and space wolves are all issues for orks.
BA - stay well clear of the blood talons and you should be able to out ork them.
Spacewolves - out orking them has a problem as they have so many attacks in cc.
Tanks - Lootas should deal with this or kans with rockets or koptas or buggies or big guns or deff rollas.
Termies are fine but keep your nobs well clear.
In general you spam whatever you want and that is your list. Choose from boyz, trukks, battlewagons, battlewagons+trukks, kanz+dreads, even shooty stuff. If you do not spam you will happen to die as each unit is rubbish. The word spam has negative contentions but that is because marines use the ork tactic.

The most important advice for the fledgling Warboss is "boys before toys".
Make sure you have at least 40 basic boys (most people prefer shoota boys but I like a mix of sluggas and shootas) and if you want a tide more like 80-100.
At 1500 points I would say 40 is pretty much a bare minimum.
Start with the boys, at 6pts a pop theyre one of the best units in the game, and super fun to build.

I'm feeling at least 60 to 90 boyz with a mix of sluggas and shootas, each unit with a nob w/ PK and a BP. For now I'll probably use the koptas as it's what I have but I want to eventually get a deff rolla and some kans.
what do you mean by spamming? I'm assuming that's just going with one thing in abundance?

That is what I mean. I am sure other people use other terms or use the word spam differently:some may even eat it. I shall now explain my point further.
All models apart from Flashgitz work for orks.
The newbie error is to buy a mixture of units. Like 2 trukks, one battlewagon, 5 burnas, 5 stormboyz, 30 foot slogging boyz.
What happens in this example is the battlewagon is targetted by lascannons, the trukks by light guns, the storm boyz charge in but die as there is only 5, the burnas get charged and then die and the 30 boyz are left for desert.
If you have 4 battlewagons enough of them will get through to kill.
If you have 8 trukks enough of them will get through to kill.
If you have 180 foot slogging boyz then enough of them will get through to kill.
The squads mentioned happen to need 15 to have the desired effect, maybe this is just a side issue.

I was thinking of taking 1 or 2 Battlewagon's with my HQ's Ghahzkhull Thraka and Ork Big Mek with KFF. I know I wanna have several loota's to help take out stuff from a range, and I do want Kommando's with Snikrot. I'll probably run a few bikers but other than that I'm thinking of putting all my remaining points into boyz. But slugga's or shoota's? I want all of my army to arrive at around the same time. I have read that shoota's are a better investment as they get you in the fight a turn or two faster, but ultimately the slugga's do more damage more often once they get dug in. Should I ditch the mechanization? With the definative HQ's, Kommando's with Snikrot and Loota's where should I go from there?

If you're going to have battlewagons, have two. With only one, there is no question as to what to target with heavy guns. Saturate your opponent with many threats. Riflemen dreads eat trukks up, so don't just have a little if you're going to be mechanized.
Don't just run the two battlewagons, back them up with at least two trukks, and a KFF Big Mek is ultimately a must.
Lootas are great for light vehicles, and decent against infantry.
Bikers are fantastic, in a mechanized/speed freek army. You don't want portions of your army striking at different times: Your opponent can focus his entire strength on a smaller part of your army, destroy it, and then focus on the rest.
If you slog, go shootas. If you deliver by vehicle, slugga boyz. Unless you've got the cash, try to mechanize and scratch build a few vehicles, and add as you go along. My army has slowly built into a mechanized force to reckon with.
Green Tide can be slow to play, because it's easy to have 120-180 models at 1500 points. You can field 2 KFF Big Meks and 6 units of 30 boyz all led by PK/BP nobs for 1490 points.
Don't run just 3 warbikes, you need a few more for them to be viable. The good thing about the battle force and warbikes sets is that you only need one biker nob per squad, so you can use the torso and PK for another nob for your boyz units.
