My question is basically the same as the title. What is Fantasy Flight Games and what does the company offer? From what I have read, it appears to cover RPG games, but how do they work? Are they purely paper based, or require 40k models to play? The only context in which I have heard the phrase Role Playing Game was in reference to a genre of computer game.

I'm just a bit curious on the subject, having heard of Death Watch and Black Crusade and seen them advertised. Black Crusade in particular looks very interesting.

I don't think they require minis at all. Not from what I've seen.

A fun company to work for.

Fantasy Flight Games is a multi-faceted company that creates everything from simple board games, detailed board games, games licensed from other properties (Gears of War, Battlestar Galactica, A Game of Thrones, Lord of the Rings, etc.), card games, miniature games and role-playing games.

Like any other RPG, only better!

(LOL @ me! The corporate shill!)

Computer RPG's came about because of pen-and-paper RPGs. The 40K RPG's can be done in really any way you want - all in your head, all done on paper, or done with miniatures. It's really up to the group (we, for instance, use miniatures for most things).

Black Crusade is very interesting, if you want the freedom to roam the Imperium without being a slave to it.

I'm really excited about their Blood Bowl Team Manager card game.

Their 40k RPG line looks really good. Haven't played yet, but ordered Dark Heresy. The books contain a lot of nice artwork and give a good look into the 40k universe.

And, ironically, is the one thing they didn't write.

They make RPGs. Take Dungeons of Dragons for example, you have players and the narrator. I think they do an amazing job in their games, better still... Not many annoying little Children who ruin my favourite chapter.

Their Deathwatch and Rogue Trader and Dark Heresy are "Pen & Paper" RPGs like Dungeons & Dragons.

They are mostly paper-based, but a good Gamemaster/Narrator will give you plenty of visual maps, pictures, and other aids to look at. Many will also resolve combat using miniatures.

W40k RPGing is ace. Loads of different ways to adventure in your favourite oppressed, superstitious and violent society!

Do me a favour, though, and badger H.B.M.C. and co to create a source book with gazetteers, maps, examples of what a grocery shop looks like on Sinophia- stuff like that. He doesn't see enough of that over on the FFG forum...

FF makes pretty sweet games. I own Rogue Trader RPG and now a new mini-game called Citadels. Think they also make Castle Ravenloft and other great board games.

Castle Ravenloft is a D&D board game, made by Wizards of the Coast.

The Inquisitor's Handbook and Purge the Unclean (the book with the non-broken Marine equipment ) were from Black Industries, too, I think. But that's about it.

Anyhow, FFG now also has the license for Star Wars products. I'm quite curious about their X-Wing game, but I also wonder whether they'll ever do an RPG for that franchise.

OP: You can download some introductory adventures and stuff from FFG's website, they include basic rules so that you may get a feeling on how stuff works. I'd say give it a read and see how you like it!

I'm just going to give a direct answer.

Fantasy Flight games is a gaming company that makes all sorts of board games, card games, rpg games, and are even making their own wargame, dust warfare. In my opinion they are one of the best gaming companies out there today and I have yet to be disappointed by anything they make.
They have a licensing agreement with GW and make 40k and fantasy tabletop rpgs, card games, and board games. Nothing they make requires anything from GW since they are all self-contained games. I think the chaos board game has a few plastic game tokens, but that is as close as they come to using models.
