I was thinking. Was Games Day: Australia a success or failure? I say it was a success on side with a good hobby area with my Local Red Shirt in charge of it, a good Forge World Area, THQ area and Sales area. The thing I didn't like was the incompentitant knowledge of rules by the Redshirts at the Gaming areas. One forgot to do Fear and Terror tests in the Fantasy games. The food was expensive and bad. THe rest of it was meh.

My friends who went got there early and spend quite a lot of time in line to get to the FW area.
They revealed nothing new.
It cost $75 to get in.
But failure is the wrong word. 'Typical' would be a better one.

Someone over at Warseer was asking studio staff questions about the event, and they said the Australian event was pretty succesful and would be held again.

Well yes there were a lot of people there, and at $75 a pop, who can blame them for wanting to do it again?

Given all of the anti-GW sentiment, I think that the GW staff consider it a success that they survived the event.

And at 75 per and (apparently) no exclusives, who can blame the customers for being a little miffed?

Going by what few pics I've come across, it does look like it was reasonably well attended, which surprises me given the pricetag.
There's been remarkably little buzz about it online, either before or after. I do know that a lot of former Golden Demon regulars weren't as enthusiastic about it as they had been in previous years. A lot of the sheen has dulled after nearly a decade of neglect...

I spent most of my time there hanging out at the hobby area, which was good. The staff were friendly, I got loads of free bits from the conversion comps, and got a few art prints. So that was fun.
Sadly, it seems the only new thing GW had to show product-wise was Dreadfleet. Nothing for 40k. I didn't see the Forge World stuff, but I've been told it was pretty good.
Space Marine was AWESOME.

So for £50 what do you get exactly? Kinda makes me think if a larger, and more expensive, version of WD.
"Hey guys, give us £50 so we can tell you stuff that you already know, save p+p on FW models and we may kinda hint at something that is coming up (but not to much)."
That about it?
If so, then you really, really, really deserve each other.

Live your life that the fear of death can never enter your heart. Trouble no one about his religion. Respect others in their views and demand that they respect yours. Love your life, perfect your life. Beautify all things in your life. Seek to make your life long and of service to your people. When your time comes to die, be not like those whose hearts are filled with fear of death, so that when their time comes they weep and pray for a little more time to live their lives over again in a different way. Sing your death song, and die like a hero going home.

It was absolutely awesome. I don't really have words anymore, I've been talking about it so much. I was really happy to get so much Black Library gear before release and get it all signed, and had Phil K himself show me how to play Dread Fleet when I caught him for a quiet 15 minute spell. I bought new copies of all my codexes for him to scrawl in, and was only disappointed that I'd already ordered Dreadfleet and couldn't get him to scrawl on that too. Got The Outcast Dead signed by Graham McNiell and chatted about Fulgrim a bit. When he wrote it, it was far more 'adult', even as it stands out amongst the other HH series. He and Lindsay (one of the main BL editors for those who don't/can't read them) worked to cut it back to the minimum he could get away with. Anthony Reynolds has always lived nearby (he's an Aussie) and I enjoyed meeting him too, but that was pretty late and I just talked about the Knights of Bretonia series. He revealed to me that Chlod had long ago died of old age by the time of the events of Grail Knight, which stupidly didn't occur to me when I read it. Derp. The Perry twins were great blokes and I somehow ended up discussing transvestites with Michael Perry for a fair length of time. True story. The gaming area - the most important part that no one seems to mention - was awesome. Some of the tables were fantastic, and only a few were mediocre. The large-scale Aeronautica Imperialis game being played with Valkyries and other '28mm' Forgeword flyers was great. One kid was loaded up with 100 free Empire Greatswords (won a modelling competition on the day) and most of the other kids were being given lots of free models. It seemed like every second kid was carrying a freshly build plastic Chaos termie lord. Golden Daemon too... except that my model didn't get through. Kyle Morgan takes another pile of trophies home along with a sword - well done sir!
