I apologize if this has been asked before, but I'm either blind, or have not been able to find it while searching.

Playing a team game, let's say 2 Daemon of Chaos, or Dark Elf/Warriors of Chaos in any combination team up. Come the Magic phase, do both roll 2D6, total result comes to 18, do they both get 9,
or is it a total 2D6 for both armies, 5 rolled(2 and 3), one gets 2, other gets 3? And would the opposite side get 3 dispel dice each, or have to divide 3? 2 for one, 1 for the other?

I'm wondering, due to if it's just 2d6 for both armies allied together, that seems to cripple any caster heavy armies, like DE or VC..

Any clarification would be much appreciated

It you are working as allied forces, then is is 2D6 in total. You then choose to split (if you like eachother) or may be forced to split evenly (if skaven or DE are about)

There's a couple of boxed texts titled "magic" in the allied armies rules that explain how this works.

Yes, I seen those, but wasn't clear on if ti was the normal 2D6, or if each ally rolled their on 2D6 then added them, then split. Confusing I'm sure.

Was hoping for the latter, as if any low numbers are rolled, if you have 2 magic heavy armies allied, to me they're almost crippled, instead of 8 dice, you get 4.. especially when the guys wanted to do 2 Daemon armies against DE and VC lol.

Another thing that was brought up, which I think/hope doesn't come into play, is having 1 spell per army besides signatures.
If both allied armies take Lore of Fire, are they both able to have Flaming Sword of Rhuin, or only 1 Wizard in the allied army?

No, you get 2D6 total. The only time you get more is playing Storm of Magic.

They are not one army, but allied ArmiES, so you can duplicate spells

The duplication rule is just for that army allied wizards are ignored. And yes magic heavy is hard with allies. altho having a trusted/suspicious ally handle magic while you go CC/shooting heavy can prove quite badass.

Allies means that magic is going to be tough, especially if you arn't friendly.

depending on how many points you are playing, you may wish to alter the winds roll. for a 5k allied game, we decided to do 3D6 choose 2 highest for power dice and D6+highest power dice roll for dispell dice.

I played a doubles recently and we played it like this:
The opponent who had the biggest part of his army in front of the biggest part of your army then he would be your other for winds of magic.
So I roll for winds of magic with 2d6 like normal i get the value of both he gets the highest.
Now my team mate and his other roll for winds of magic like normal.

Every body that can channel channels.

So now its almost split into 2 games. For magic each player casts his own spells no sharing power dice.

But for dispelling anyone could dispel anyone's magic.

That worked.
