A fortified bunker deep in the Andes

Hi all!

I played my first game of 40K against a stranger at the FLGS and I thought it would be interesting to see how your guy's first games were, seeing as they are probably fairly memorable. Full battle reports aren't really are idea, just little moments.

My story has me playing Orks vs. marines, and I had the AoBR set as well as a big Mek, some lootas and 3 kans. On the first two turns, my mek fired his shokk only twice, as the first result was 2:2, which blew up my Nobz squad, and a 1:1. so that didn't work. Also notably my big charge of 10 boyz with 40 dice killed only one tac marine. Hopefully my luck will turn around next time.

How about you guys?

Actual conversation from my stats class-
Student: Why is the denominator on that equation n-1?
Prof: n is very good, but n-1 is also very good.

My first game, I played Chaos and used a Dreadnought. Basically, all that happened was that I got wiped out by my own robot.

4+ years, I come back to the hobby, and since Chaos is still the same, I go Orks. My first game with them, I beat an Eldar player at 500 pts.

Meltas didn't help at all
All the Marines I got from other users from the Great Marine Swap played important roles, and all the tac marines from other people lived (I painted 2 in my GMS squad)
All the Veteran/honor guard GMS marines died heroic deaths, taking down a ton of boyz each
the GMS techmarine put a wound on a KFF mek with his lowly bolter, and died to a full squad of ork shooting. However, this saved an ENTIRE tac squad from dying, which made short work of the orks later
We spent 20 minutes or so reading about vehicles, walkers, and the like and how to damage them

Ummm...somewhere...

First battle (mind drifts away to the memories...) My sisters vs my mates AOBR black templar's on a 2x2 board, neither of us had ever played a game or been taught the rules so it was a bit of a learning curve after studying the rules many many times All I can remember from that game was winning, and rolling for a 6 on my exorcist missiles and wiping out his 5 man terminator squad (never knew about the 5++ in those times), lucky dice roles on my behalf

My first game EVER was me as a little, little kid playing some 2nd ed 40k in a game store with my dad. I had Blood Angels and a squad of assault Terminators with lightning claws. They tore up a rhino or predator and that's about all I recall. To this day, red Terminators with green gradient lightning claws are one of my favorite images in the game.

HIDING IN METAL BAWKSES!

First time I played, it was against my brother. We both had the same list: 1 Tactical Squad each, a Rhino for the squad, and we got to choose to use a a AoBR Dread (I think) or a LasPred.
First game: I won. Some memorable things are:
- Tank Shock the Tac Squad (who passed all their saves from when I blew up the Rhino), 1 guy DoG, and got pasted.
- My Pred got it's weapons blown off, and was shaken+stunned. So it was basically useless.

Second game (right after the first). I lost. Memorable things are:
- Half my squad gets killed from my bro, who now has the LasPred, as he blows up my Rhino. The subsequent shots from the Storm Bolter on the Rhino kills 2 of my guys. End of turn 2: 7 guys killed.
- Next turn: my Dread gets blown up. So I now have 3 guys taking on a fully intact LasPred, a Rhino, and a squad of 8 Tac Marines (I was able to kill 2 with my 3 guys)
- Last turn sees my guys get ripped to shreds.

Yeah, had some laughs about those

Me I played some my orks against my friends BA. was getting tuaght how to play by just playing. Had my warboss in the back and 30 boyz up front. MY friend charged me with some BA character that had what looked like a chainsword on a halberd. Anyway, he has some special attack that lets him do a spin attack and counter attack for every one i roll. Ya didnt go well, lol.

Over the hills and far away.

First game was my DA vs some guys DE in a 750point match. I soundly thrashed him and only lost two tac marines by the end of turn 6. You see there are these things called crack missiles... they work wonders against shoddy Dark Eldar vechicles.

My first true game was at GW around 2009, they held mass beginner games and I had Daemons. Almost everyone on my table area told me that Daemons 'sucked' and 'stay in fantasy', suffice to say I wiped out an entire Space marine squad after crossing the board and I had a single model left. I believe I did well for my first game.

The biggest indicator someone is a loser is them complaining about 3d printers or piracy.

My first ever game:
Was given a 10 man squad of marines (since I had no models) which were put into a bunker. My 10 guys became the objective and both teams tried to rescue/kill me. I remember enjoying it, and dont remember dying but thats about it lol.

My first game after a long break:
I beat some GK with my new DE. All in all I killed all but 2 models, lost a raider and 2 wyches. The amount of 1's rolled in by my opponent was shocking.

That's a cool idea. Way better than what i'm doing, which is have the redshirts telling me to get 1250 points or not bother coming. Feh.

My friends and I started with a full three way battle back at about the start of 4th.

Two marine armies against a necron one. Took several hours and we each got about two turns, in which not much happened besides my Dreadnought watching Gauss fire bounce off of it and punching the Necron Lord in the face.

I honestly do not remember my first game. It was in 2001, and my memory from those years is a little... sparse. I do know it was probably with a single squad of Dire Avengers - since those were my first models and it took me 3 months to save up for them - and in a multi-sided game, due to my small force size - so basically I had no expectation of winning, and the other players would focus on each other and let me have fun getting to know the game, and knew that I likely wouldn't do much damage.

But I have no specific memories of my first game.

Ruthless Interrogator

My first game was at a local hobby shop when I was all of 11 or 12 years old. I played with two squads of Blood Angels (one with a flamer, one with a ML as I recall) against a larger number of Orks and Gretchin...and I think the cardboard Ork Dred. Basically all of the models that comprised the 2nd Ed. starter box at that time.

What I remember best was the nicely made scratch-built terrain and the banners hanging on my BA Sergeant's backpacks. The spectacle of it all really wowed me at the time. I begged and borrowed from my parents for months before I got the 2nd Ed. box on layaway, then I started a Blood Angels army of my own. Since then I've scrapped and sold most of that army (and mercifully forgot the awful paintjobs I threw on them), but I still have my static-pose 2nd Ed. Marines, Orks, and Gretchin. Good nostalgia value and aren't bad for a proxy here and there.
