Subject: Dakka's perfect game (Just for fun)
|

Longtime Dakkanaut

There seem to be alot of hardcore and vocal gamers in amongst the dakka community and i thought it would be a bit of fun to try and construct our ideal game.
What got me thinking of this were Deus ex: human revolution and the trailers/hype for the videogames 'Syndicate' and 'Dishonoured, syndicates trailer in particular looking dangerously close to my perfect game. Now these are just trailers, the watered down, pared back experience that will arrive come release will be nowhere near what i want, as we dont need to actually make our game we have no such limitations. Now as it is an ideal game the platform is irrevalent, the mouse/sticks will be callibrated like a dream the graphics will be 'Ultra' and the servers will be dedicated, console interfaces will work as smoothly as hotkeys etc (If you take issue with this, the game is for your favorite platform, okay?)
So first things first, perspective. In my experieince there are four types:
Top down: Diablo style, all the way to rts, though i am assuming most people want to control a 'character'.
Third person: GTA, Gears of war, although this has a 'shaky-cam journalist' vibe.
First person/hybrid: Most your average floating guns, and Games with thrid person 'canned' animations such as cover crouching/vaulting and takedowns.
First person 'full body realism': Erm... Mirror's Edge. Oddly i would include the 'diagetic' hud from deadspace in this category as well. Full body realism is something i am very interested in so it is my personal fave.
What do you think is the best compromise between fun/strategy/immersion?
Next, Play-space
Linear: Half life 2
Linear action-bubble: Halo, crysis 2.
Open world: Morrowind, GTA.
Wheel/'Spoke and Hub': Oddworld stranger, Most Jrpgs, Deus ex: Human revolution. Again probably my fave of the bunch.
What do you think has the best potential for pace/fun/freedom?
There is plenty more to discuss after this, favourite settings, Rpg elements, Scripted story Vs Emergent/instanced goodness, Mlutiplayer/MMO functionality.
Discuss and get thinking!
Thanks for reading!

my perfect game??
um this will need to be updated as i figure out more haha.
think the sims mixed with oblivion mixed with Monster Hunter.
Conditions to satisfy like hunger, energy and such for survival.
Hygiene and the likes for interacting with people(like if your too smelly people try avoid you).
Customization of armour from the actual item right down to adding say tiny gems for decoration/enchanting purpose.
Vast world to explore with many dungeons and such, and something really challenging, mega boss fights(similar to the massive mutant things from Fallout 3, they were fun to kill).

Right now, Mass Effect 2. Its probably the best game in the last decade, and maybe even ever.
If Mass Effect 3 lives up to the hype, it very well could be the best game ever made.

i would have maybe agreed if the story to Mass Effect 2 wasnt so crap compared to the first one. Even then it doesnt have everythin I would like in my perfect game.

This. ME2 was 5 steps forward and oh maybe, 8 steps back?
My perfect game would be some kind of mix between Warhammer 40k, Halo, the Matrix, and Star Trek. Yes. The first one and the last one seem completely contradictory I'm thinking Third Person Shooter with RPG elements. A mix of Mass Effect game play with actual RPG mechanics and real skill trees.

X-com mixed with X-com.
And maybe some more X-com.
If I had to mix games, I'd mix X-com with more customization
and fewer sudden death/lost investment redshirts. So X-com
with more sci-fi/fantasy tropes where the soldiers respawn
after taking casualties rather than dying.

Gameplay from Oblivion (Want to say Skyrim, but as I haven't played that yet..... Twould be silly).
Horroresque setting (Castlevania series, Evil Dead, Splatterhouse)
Three playable classes:
Holyman: Uses Holy Water, Divine Judgement, Crosses, Bibles, and other holy artifacts to hunt down and destroy the forces of darkness! (Belmonts,Father Anderson)
Hunter: Uses conventional weapons, along with Stakes, Holy Water, and the like. Is capable of using some cursed artifacts, though the most powerful will destroy their soul. (Ashley Williams, Van Helsing,)
Souless: Capable of using all manner of Cursed artifacts and dark powers, including shapeshifting, Possessed masks, and possibly things like Invisibility, Hell Magic, and other such nonsense. (Rick Tayler, Paxton Fettel)
Four player Co-op, Maps are Borderlands esque.
So basically, it's a four player romp through the darkest of landscapes, hunting standard things like Vampires, Werewolves, and Zombies, along with fighting things like Legion, Cthulu, and other such Horror Classics.

Option 1: a 3rd person over the shoulder, Fantasy RPG with a semi-linear mutable storyline, IE your choices have an effect on the entire outcome, but you don't have the "im gonna sit here and do side quests for the next 8 days. every choice affects the story, and not just in a 1-3 good endings and 3-4 "bad" endings kinda way, but on the scale of Thousands of possible endings.
Option 2: A VR minecraft MMORPG.

Actually, no, no it's not.
For one, the Lambent are totally different than the Locust, and you fight the Lambent more, so it's a different enemy throughout most of the campaign. One major difference.
Instead of two player co- op, there is now four player coop. Two Major differences.
There are now Mutators, and a Score Attack Mode for the campain. Three Major Differences.
Horde Mode now has you building defenses, from razor wire to turrets to sentries and decoys. Four Major Differences.
Beast Mode, which allows you to play the exact oppposite of Horde Mode. Five Major Differences.
Female Characters. Six Major Differences.
I could go on.

A mix of halo reach, mine craft, portal two and assassins creed. modding and open world gameplay in a first person view such as halos but can be switched in a similar way to mine craft. the ability to manipulate the land scape to your advantage but not so much you become over powered. The awesome close quarters combat of assassins creed and the ranged weapons and equipment of reach. finally it would have awesome puzzles and contraptions like portal.

I like Gears 3 more than 1 and 2, and I liked it significantly more than any other game that I've played in recent memory.
It pretty much is as close to a perfect game as I've seen. The Campaign is fun, Multiplayer is great, and the sound and graphics are top notch. I'm not the only person that thinks this game was pretty good.
YMMV.

That's fine and all but I just find Gears of War games, boring because all you do is run, shoot and take cover there's little effort put in breaking up that monotony.
