There was an old DC Heroes rpg system (don't remember the publisher off the top of my head) that I had some good times with. The all of the stats and powers scaled exponentially but compared linearly, which tried to mimic the effects of, say, people being able to survive superman punching them. For instance, Batman could conceivably last a few rounds in a fist fight, but unless he pulled off one of his tricks he'd get creamed. It led to some pretty crazy characters, and that made it pretty fun.
Or it could be abused. I made a character in it once who had a build using a Superman-tier number of points, but putting them all into the cheapest power available, which was increased sight range. The guy ended up being a regular dude, but able to pick out something the size of a car a galaxy or two away.
