"For Macragge! For Guilliman! Courage and honour!"

Hello everyone.
I have decided to work on everyone's favorite space marine chapter, the Ultramarines. The plan is to build an army from all of my old Marines and once I am finished re-issuing them, begin to buy new ones. I currently have enough for 1,000 points.
However, instead of going out and buying all new stuff, I decided to be smarter about it and strip down my old models and re-issue them! So I went to my local Wally World and bought a nice large jug of Simple Green. I set all my current power armour marine models in a nice deep plastic tub and poured in the SG.
After letting them bathe overnight, I pulled each model out one by one and began to brush off the old paint with a toothbrush. With everything dry and seemingly striped of paint I began to start again.
Thus we have my first Ultramarine Astartes!

Brother Midas of Squad Septimus

And finally a close up on the snow base, also my first real attempt at snow.

I really like how this turned out. The blue came out exactly how I wanted and I love the snow. I wanted it to seem as though he has been trudging through some heavy snow drifts while getting shot at constantly. The blue was a nice alternative to the stark white of my Deathwing (which I am still working on by the way). Brother Midas will be a part of a ten man tactical squad, squad Septimus.

I also spoiled myself and grabbed the Blood Angel Death Company box. I've been wanting this kit for a while now and it was definitely worth the money. Born from this sudden splurge of money, I converted a Captain to lead my company.

Captain Adonis

I dont know why but I love powerfists. I imagined him screaming "For Macragge!", his power fist held high as the marines around him reply, "For Guilliman!" and then just obliterating the enemy.
As far as modeling is concerned, I just have to fill the front of his legs. I will then paint them in gold and scribble some writing on it to make them look like honour "boards".
I also have a Chaplain pretty much done modelling wise. I should have another Marine painted and finished over the weekend.
Thanks for looking and let me know what you think.

I'm definitely going to subscribe to this.
Nice OSL from the tactical marines eye, I also like the scratches and battle damage him.
Your recipe for blue looks great and I would ask you for it but then I would have to repaint my whole Ultramarine army.
BTW how did you do the battle damage on the marine?
The captain looks very plain but I kind of like him that way.
I am really liking the work here so far. Keep it coming!

Thank you Flying Poo!
The blue was very very simple and if you want to know the recipe I would definitely make a Tutorial for my next update!
Now for the battle damage, I used two colors, Chaos Black and Space Wolves Grey. You simply paint a blotch or line of battle damage with Chaos Black and then highlight the bottom of the damage with Space Wolves Grey! Its that easy haha
Yeah the Captain does seem a bit plain doesn't he? I've been pondering on maybe sculpting a cloak for him. However, I have some painting details in store for him so watch this space
I'll probably be ordering some Ultra bitz from the Warstore and some brass etch symbols from FW as soon as my PayPal account is fixed. I could've sworn I had a crap load of Ultra plastic bitz in my bitz box

@ Mr.Malevolent- Thank you very much for the tip on the battle damage. I don't have SWG so I might use Shadow grey or Codex grey Instead (my Blue is darker anyway). I'll test it out on the next mini I paint.

And a cloak would look great on that captain.
Maybe you could thy something like King Leonidas' cape in 300.

Looking good.

Good painting job with nice posing. And adding something with those few extra special effects.

Really nice looking snow, is it GW's or something else?

Haha thanks Brian dont make me pull your arm to follow me Oh and PM sent!

Hmmm I like the idea Flying Poo. I'll see if I can make a decent cloak over the weekend.

Thank you very much bebopdrums2424 for the kind words.

Not GW snow effects Northern. Good guess though. Its basically PVA glue, water and baking soda. Yeah a strange combo but man does it look realistic in person.

Great OSL on the marine and a cape would look epic on the other guy.

@sennacherib: Thank you. Glad you like where I'm headed with my Ultras. I thought about having some 'Nid bitz on my bases but I just need to get some as I am currently all out....

@Zebra88: Hahaha yeah I found the recipe for realistic snow on some japanese WW2 miniature site. Its a simple recipe and one youd never think would work.

@Farty Wiffmas: Thank you, I'm loving OSL lately and I'm gad everypne is liking my take on it. And yes, a cape will definitely be modeled onto the Captain a.s.a.p.

Little update

Well apparently I have run out of glue (due to the large Ogre army in the background) so I'm kind of stuck at the moment. I just finished (besides applying the Ultra decal) another Marine. Just cant attach his right arm
Hope you like him.

And of course I just noticed a wash spot on the snow...

Let me know what you guys think.

I find this army hilarious knowing what ELSE is going on in your life, MM. How's your other, other, OTHER army coming along?

Gorgeous work on the blues and golds. I am envious.

Great painting, he looks really nice. A snow basing scheme really suits Ultramarines.

Well well a lot of comments since I was last on.
Thank you everyone for the very kind words!

@Tech Guard: I will definitely get on a tutorial as soon as possible.

@Briancj: I know right? If you mean the Carcharadons, I'll be working on them around mid-December. I only have 3 active projects right now, Ultramarines, Deathwing and my Ogre Kingdoms. So not too many..... I'm glad you like how I painted my Ultras. Thank you! EDIT: Oh yeah almost forgot, True-Scale Alpha Legion!

@Flying Pooo: Thank you! I've definitely been in a snow base mood lately, glad you like them.

Thanks Red Corsair. Right now I just want to finish a whole 10 man squad (and one Captain and Chaplain) and see how I feel once I finish them. The ultimate goal is to do a whole Company eventually

Sort of an update today.
Lifes been a bit crazy and I finally got a chance to hit the painting table.
Nothing new on the Ultras front except for some new pics of the first marine I finished.
I printed out some photo backgrounds and tried a new "photo booth" technique.
Hope you like it.

Thanks for looking and C&C is always welcome!
