Sitting in the corner of The Eye Of Terror... crying...

We're gonna need more info to answer that question properly. Which army/armies do you play? what sort of list and stratagys do you use? BTW welcome to dakka!

They have the obvious uses of providing extra mobility for your infantry.
Blocking line of sight, or providing cover for other models.
Blocking the enemies movement
2 embarked models can fire out of the top hatch, thus letting you fire special or heavy weapons(if the rhino didn't move) from the relative safety of the rhino

I have always been a fan of using a pair of rhinos with tac squads inside and turning them into a V shape, with the point of the V facing the badguys. disembark dudes inside the V to shoot out of the point (How much gap between the two hulls is up to you, if you want to try to play cover shenanigans, but do not allow enough room for a base to slip between them.) Watch opponent pull hair out because he can't simply roll his face on the board and charge you directly.

Most of the tactics with rhinos will be very fluid and in the moment though, and highly dependant on local units and terrain. Use them as roadblocks or tank shockers whereever you can. Nothing is quite as awesome or annoying as watching a gunless rhino escort a unit of assault terminators off the board because they could neither regroup, nor shoot it to make it stop following them.

Here's an even better tip for the OP. Sit down and play some games, then ask questions. Randomly asking how to use one vehicle with no reference point is a waste of your time.

This has always been a fun one. It worked well with Grey Hunters and I'm starting to experiment with it for Blood Angels. It's especially fun when the unit you're blocking for is something like Honor Guard with 4 plasma guns, I'd imagine it works even better for purifiers, just because of how st wrong psycannons can be.

Well, if you want to approach the enemy with them, take 2 Rhinos one behind the other, move them 12'' with the one in front launching smoke. Next turn leap frog them and now the 2nd Rhino takes the lead (launching smoke) with the first now behind. This leap frog tactics works very well - hello 3rd edition (Rhino rush).

It does work better for GKs, but not solely because of psycannons. The reason it's shiny for vanilla is that you use it to give you a measure of charge prevention after moving and disembarking to rapid fire important targets (usually ones your terminators are about to hit, or something that needs to die NOW.) ...naturally, you don't want these targets turning on you if you fail for whatever reason and shoot you while you are out of cover, or charge you directly, because you are going to be within 12 to do anything, after all. V formation gives you some small measure of protection against either. GK's with the ability to 12 move, disembark, 24 shoot have ridiculous distance added on as a charge preventative.

As always, this requires breaking of the vaunted golden rule of 5th ed "Don't ever get out of your transports!"...but I don't generally listen to people who tell me not to ever do things. I don't even listen to myself when I say that.

You can deploy your rhinos butt to butt when starting off, that gives them AV11 all around and gives you an extra 2" or so going forward. you can also disembark out f the front if you hug those models in between the front and tread. it is technically 2" from the hatch and as long as a part of the base is within 2" your fine.

special teams can fire 2 weapons out of the top hatch as stated. this makes for funy shinanigans with meltaguns.

This is incorrect. If an enemy is still in the rear arc then he stills hit the rear armour of 10, however because he cannot see the facing he is shooting at (but can still see the rest of the tank) the tank gets a 3+ cover save.

In your squads, doing the chainsword tango

It should be damn near impossible for a rhino to get shot in the rear armor on the first turn, unless your a very special fella indeed and point the rear towards the opponent, or they drop pod on you =\

asides from blocking movement in an open field by forcing them to go around your rhino, look for trees/village/ruins and walls that have a rhino sized gap between them. there is nothing like blocking a street with a sideways rhino

He's talking about deploying two of them sideways back to back, so best case scenario for neither one getting hit in the rear is when they are deployed dead centre. Given this point, you can extend an ~38" line from you deployment zone up the left or right edge of the board (so to the board edge) and connect that the the centre of either Rhino. Anything falling within one of those triangles on the flank falls in the Rhino's rear arc. Considering part of that triangle goes through the enemy deployment zone, that leaves ~17" from the board edge across the enemy deployment zone that automatically will put them in the Rhino's rear arc. For anywhere going out not far from that point a short move will put them in.

The more to the left or the right the Rhinos deploy, the easier it is to get the rear of one but the harder for the other.

So whatever way you slice it, with Abyssel's suggested deployment it is very easy to hit one or both of the Rhino's in the rear turn 1 (they still get their 3+ cover though).
