Subject: Sisters of Battle INAT FAQ question submission thread!

I know I'm a little behind the times on this, but given the relative simplicity (and perhaps unpopular standing) of the Sisters of Battle White Dwarf codex I haven't seen many rules questions for the list at all, but I do need a good set of any grey areas in the published rules that need to be addressed in a FAQ.
So this thread is a place to post your questions about unclear rules in the new Sisters of Battle White Dwarf codex. It is not a place to argue over the rules. If you want to argue about the rules, feel free to start a separate thread to discuss the particular issue. Any arguments that happen in this thread will be deleted, so you've been warned!
A few ground rules about posting a question:
1) Please include a White Dwarf issue (pt 1 or pt 2) & page number and any other reference to where the unclear rules are found.
3) If you feel a question that someone posted is CLEARLY answered by the rules, then you can post ONE (and only one) reply explaining why you think the rules clearly answer that question. The original poster of the question can post ONE (and only one) response to your reply if they so choose...however no matter what, no further discussion about that particular rule will be allowed in this thread (any further posts on the matter will be deleted). Again, if you want to discuss the issue further, feel free to start a separate thread dedicated to the subject.
4) If you're looking for 'credit' for your rules question in the INAT, I just want to let you know up front that besides a general thanks to the community for helping submit questions, you won't be getting any specific credit for your question submission. I know 99% of people don't even understand why this point is being brought up, but for the 1% who are looking to be 'credited' for something like this I just wanted to let you know up front that you shouldn't post your question in this thread if you're looking for said credit.
And with that, let the questions commence!
Thanks guys and gals.

If more than one Penitent Engine is purchased for the same FoC slot, are they individual units, or a squadron?
If you decide to buy more than one Penitent Engine for an FoC slot, can you buy one more, or do you always have to buy 2 more?

St. Celestine - IC or not?
In WD380 pg 94 "Acts of Faith" she's mentioned as one of the ICs that, when joined to a unit, grant +1 on the roll. She's also listed with the IC rule on page 103 of the same WD.
In the army list (WD 381 pg 85) the IC rule isn't listed.

Jerffersonian - they are a squadron because they dont say they arent. The default for a vehicle unit wher eyou can buy more than one is that they are still a single unit

Its a permissive rule set. If it doesn't say they are a squadron, then they aren't a squadron. But it also doesn't say they aren't a squadron, hence my question.

No, it has to say they arent a squadron for them not to be a single unit. The default is that a single selection is a single unit.
After all you dont require "chaos terminators: 3-10" to say "and yes, thats one unit" now do you? Adding "because theyre a vehicle" doesnt alter the basic premise of the game.
Theyre a vehicle - unit because that is the default.

How many times can a unit attempt an act of faith?
Once per Faith Point.
Only one attempt per unit, per act.
Example: St. Celestine is killed, I roll a 5 for Faith. I then roll for MI, and roll a 3. Attempt fails. Can I then burn another point of Faith to try again?

Assuming multiple of the same Act of Faith can be attempted by the same unit, will successes stack? For example, the Canoness' +1 I or the Celestians + 1 S.
Seems obvious how most people would play it, but for completeness sake, how do SoB vehicles make use of their 6++ being that outside of Bjorn, GW hasn't provided rules for it?
What is the "correct" profile for Acro-flagellants being that they are listed as having two different profiles with pg 96 in Part 1 and page 87 in Part 2?
How is a model that suffers an unsaved wound from Kyrinov's Mace of Valaan effected if they also have wargear, ect. that boosts the initiative of said model, ie a GK Paladin with Halberd that gives + 2 I?
When would units/models lose the bonuses from being within 6" of Kyrinov or belonging to a unit with Jacobus when those models die?
How large or small of a counter should one use to mark the spot for St. Celestine's Miraculous Inetervention? How would that interact if she died in/on impassable terrain? Would she still be able to be placed and if so where? Page 103 Part 1.
St. Celestine's Ardent Blade used to specify that it was fired as a flamer. The WD codex makes no such reference but just lists a shooting weapon profile, for Apocalypse games or similar that would allow for multiple detachments, would Vulkan He'Stan allow that to be rerolled and if so when?
That's all I have for now, sure to think of some more later. Automatically Appended Next Post: Thought of another, Jacobus' Protector of the Faith Special Rule specifies while he is alive, not on the table. How does this work with keeping him in reserves given the difference in the rulings for the IG and Nid Codexes that had the same wording but were ruled two different ways?

To echo other people, the main FAQ questions I saw:
Can faith be stacked? (ie cannoness and celestians mostly)
Can faith be attempted more than once on a unit in a phase with different acts of faith (such as a cannoness attached to celestians, has 2 faith powers, can they both be used.)
Can the SAME act of faith be attempted on a unit, regardless of whether the first one passed or failed?
Some secondary questions:
When exactly do you test for the repentia's faith, at the start of the assault phase or at init 1 right before they swing. If it is at the repentia's initiative, is the 'death strike' applicable for models that died before the repentia's faith activated?
Can you use shield of faith on a vehicle for a 6++ Inv. save versus any damage? What about when being immobilized on dangerous terrain?

(pg 94 WD part1) Given Celestine joins a squad and "dies", if she "resurrects" in the turn immediately following, is she still a part of the squad for purposes of modifiers, pinning and breaking as per the rules for independent characters joining or leaving a unit (pg 48 main rule book)? Or does she "act normally", whatever that means?

Where do you measure line of sight and measure range from on an exorcist tank?

Per the US printing, on page 91 of the WD part 2, can I include just an additional 1 Penitent Engine or do I always have to add two? I was told the French version had terminology to signify "up to".

Why Faith cannot stack even if we all want it to or think they at least need that:
You take the test "immediately" before the action. ( Pg 94 WD part 1) Which means that once you roll the test, then next dice you roll are to hit rolls, which will disqualify the unit from using another act of faith to stack. The exception, listed on the same page, is for independent characters within the unit. You are permitted to combine those abilities because it is outlined in that entry. You cannot hope to bypass this timing issue by dumping multiple faith points at the same time in hopes to take multiple tests because it is outlined that you may only use 1 point at the time of testing.
Sorry peeps.

Once per Faith Point.
Only one attempt per unit, per act.

It doesn't state that Miraculous Intervention is an Act of Faith, so you don't burn a point every time you attempt to get her up. So to answer your question; once per turn, no burn. She does have the Act of Faith ability, which will allow her to benefit from a squad's ability should she join them (assuming she is indeed an independent character).

Painted - nothing stops you rolling multiple tests at the same time, however. So you CAN make faith stack, you just have to know you want to do so before rolling anything.

This question is even more pertinent now with the new Necron codex out with the Lord of Fire special rule. Previously, her Ardent Blade's shooting attack was specifically mentioned as firing a Heavy Flamer. The WD Codex in its description no longer mentions this.

If it is one act of faith per faith point, does that mean each Repentia model may make a number of attacks equal to the number of successful Martyr attempts after all models have resolved their attacks?

NO, because making one set of attacks fulfils the faith rule. Think of it as getting FC from multiple sources - gaining +1S/+1I fulfills 1 or 100 instances of FC on a unit.

I would believe you if the wording was more like "if successful models in a unit gain Spirirt of the Martyr. Spirit of the Martyr does X" much like the wording for FC so having the ability multiple times does not stack.
But it is not worded like that. Instead, when successful, you follow the steps as outlined under the Spirit of the Martyr description which states that casualties make one attack. It might look like you are limited to one attach because a model can only be killed once, but being killed is the permission to be able to make an attack from the AoF. So if attempted successfully 3 times, 3 attacks should be permitted at the end of combat. One set of attacks only fulfills one successful act of faith.

Dunno how much this mean or not, but GW finally took down the Witch Hunters FAQ from 2009 from the FAQs/Errata portion of at least the U.S. GW Website. Perhaps this will finally be the GW SoB FAQ and with the INAT shortly to follow?

Now that it is clarified that she is an IC, does she still count as being part of the squad when she resurrects? What if she does not resurrect immediately in the turn following?
For example:
If I have her attached to Repentia and she dies, when she gets back up 2 turns later when the squad is 24" away, does she still move only 6" and follows the rules for Rage? Same goes for pinning and fallback if attached to anything else.

I would say that it is based on where she pops back up. She pops back up outside of a squad, because you can't join a squad until you move. Then when she moves that choice is made.
