I got some Chaos Hounds today. I generally like the models BUT there are some I really don't care for at all, namely the wierd, chaosy mutations, boils, scorpion tales and such. I wanted them to look like fantasy beasts but moslty bad-a wolf creatures. I'm fairly new to using
GS but I figured I'd give it a go. I was actually pretty happy with the result and decided to make my first tutorial thread here. I don't really know the Space Wolves codex but this struck me as something that might fit in with a Space Wolf army.
So, Here is the main body of a hound, notice the pokey spine on the right side (life side of photo).
Here's one of the tails. Some of you may like these but I personally find them... well, stupid.
So I cut it down to use under some
GS
I removed the pokeys I didn't like and assembled the body.
So now the fun part begins. I cleared a spot in front of my computer and turned on netflix
I put a nice thin layer of
GS on the bare part of the body, covering the ribs and the back down to the tail.
I pulled out my "pokey tool". I have a set of sculpting tools my dad gave a few years back. Don't really know much about them, but I'm finally getting some use out of them. I used the one with a smoothing tool on one end and a small spade that looks like a spear tip on the other end.
So then I basically held the tool sideways, pusshed it into the
GS and then moved it slightly up or down to form strands in the fur. This could make long strands to I brok them up a bit to give the fur a shoter appearance.
The tail I did almost the same way but a teensy bit smaller
I filled in the holes for the horns with a little dot of
GS. The hard part is blending it in with the fur on the model. I did this by pushing in to make my strands as above, the pusshing or pulling the tool along the length of the model until the tip had passed out of the
GS.
Here's my first team of 5
These 5 took about as long as one movie (I kept stopping to see what was happening on the movie). I'm happy with the way they came out but the real test will be in a couple days when the are ready to be painted. That's when I'll find out if they came out alright!
Thanks for looking and I hope anyone can use this. Please leave me feedback, both on the modelling AND on the tutorial itself.
