So the first thing I want to put across is Warboss Zanzag, of Assault on Black Reach.

Zanzag is considerably smarter than the average ork. Any unit of Boys or Nobs gain the Scouts special rule, to represent Zanzags Kunnin'. In addition, 1 of these units may outflank, and any outflanking or deep striking unit may reroll the scatter dice, or dice to determine the table edge.

Supa' Charged Shoota's

if you include Zanzag in your army, then all shootas in your army, including Zanzag's, become AP D3+2. Roll each time you fire. 1 Unit needs only roll 1 time for the whole unit, though upgrade characters and IC roll seperatley. . However, the gun may become over charged, and gains the gets hot! rule.


So, Zanzag is basically a Warboss with a Vulkan He'stan like power, and an ability to move your Boys and Nobs quickly over the field.

He would work best with large units of Shoota boys, and make them even more deadly. I was just going to use the AoBR Warboss as his model as this is Zanzag.

Supa' Charged Engines +30pts

A vehicle with a Supa' Chargered Engine becomes fast. Vehicles that are already fast amy move 12" more when going flat out, so a Trukk would be able to Flat Out 30", or 36" on a road. Vehicles moving more than 24" ( not counting RPJ) using these have a 3+ cover save, but this may not be increased further, such as with KFF. These things are just too fast to be trapped in a KFF. Any vehicle moving more than 24" must take a dangerous terrain test if it moved with 3" of terrain or other models, as the driver swerves dangerously to avoid them. If they fail they are wrecked.

Everything about this character looked great until the AP 3 shootas. Considering half the codices are MEQ, AP3 is a HUGE bonus to any army. If you want to keep the idea of making their guns better, I'd just make them S4AP5 instead of S4AP6.

In the SM codex describing AoBR, the supa' charged shootas are described as being able to penetrate PA easily, but are nothing to TDA.

There's fluff, and then there are rules. The two don't correlate. Boltguns also penetrate power armour, and they're only AP5. So do lasguns.

For balance purposes, AP3 is unbalanced. AP5 makes more sense, or some other rule. Using a line from the AoBR rule book should not be the basis for a super shoota weapons for okrz.

Here's my philosophy on custom characters.

I think testing them out with your friends and using them in friendly games/campaigns is great, but huge changes should be avoided.

Less is more

I personally think you should try out the character with a 'small' change like going from AP6 to AP5 first for a few games and see what that does (play a variety of armies, not just MEQ). It may not seem like a lot against MEQ armies, but think of Nids, Guard, Eldar, and Dark Eldar.

Just my $0.02.

Its a good idea, interesting idea though.
