Forge World wrote:
Hi there,
We have two new exciting releases to announce, the mighty Dark Eldar Tantalus and the Imperial Emplacement hollow resin terrain piece.

Dark Eldar Tantalus
First crafted, so it is said, for the Archon Surasis Grief of the Kabal of the Dark Mirror, the Tantalus is an assault skimmer, somewhat larger and more complex in design than the Raider, and accordingly better armed. Its distinctive twin-hulled design houses powerful engine-reactors slaved to enhanced drives and its unique scythevane armament.

One of the largest Dark Eldar vehicles yet encountered by the Imperial war machine, the cruel reavers who crew this sleek engine of destruction take delight in mounting high-speed attacks, slicing through the hulls of enemy vehicles and rending infantry into crimson shreds, heralded by the screech of the molecular dissonance fields of its scythevanes and the rapid fire of its pulse-disintegrator armament.

The Dark Eldar Tantalus, designed by Daren Parrwood, is a detailed full resin kit that includes a set of etched brass deck panels. Measuring nearly 11” from prow to stern, this twin-hulled vehicle is a great addition to any Dark Eldar army. With its full rules contained Imperial Armour Apocalypse Second Edition, the Tantalus is available now for immediate release.

Imperial Emplacement
Adding to our new range of hollow resin scenery is the Imperial Emplacement, designed by Blake Spence.
This detailed free-standing terrain piece has been designed as a dug-in position for almost any size of Warhammer 40,000 vehicle, from Chimeras and Leman Russ to Macharius and Malcador-based super heavy tanks. The Imperial Emplacement features a wealth of detail such as ammunition stowage, unexploded munitions, a targeting cogitator and an observer’s position. The base of the Imperial Emplacement has been reinforced with trench plates to act as duckboards, and the scenery piece also features plenty of space for crew models as well as vehicles.
Ideal for use as both a gaming piece to fight battles over or the basis of a detailed diorama, the Imperial Emplacement is available to order now for immediate despatch.

Games Day Italy
A huge selection of the Warhammer Forge and Forge World ranges will be available from the Forge World stand at Games Day Italy, which will be held on 16th October at the Forum Guido Monzani in Modena. Both our 2011 Event Only MkIII Boarding Space Marine and Chaos Dwarf Hellsmith models will be on sale.

If you have placed a reservation for Games Day Italy, you’ll soon be receiving a confirmation e-mail with your order number, details of any items we’ve been unable to reserve, and a total cost in € payable on the day.

For full details of pricing at the event you can download a pdf copy of our updated 2011 Forge World catalogue and brand new Warhammer Forge catalogue.

That emplacement looks suspiciously like the earthshaker one of a few years ago.

DE announcement was let's face it not really new news.

Cheers.

Not sure, I want to say that's not too bad for the emplacement but I may just be too used to FW prices now?

It's not too bad when compared to the Ziterdes stuff.
Equivalent sized piece would cost me $40+ here in the U.S.

Nah. It's not a bad deal at all. The Tarantula Sentry Emplacement is 18.50 GBP, and looks to be maybe half the size of this emplacement.

It's so expensive, however, because it's essentially a solid brick of resin.

How many different ways can you stack sandbags?

A rather boring piece tbh...

The emplacement doesn’t really interest me. As CT said, it’s quite a boring piece – just a rectangle with some sandbags on it. Maybe it’s good for a diorama piece, but as a piece of terrain sitting on a table it’d probably just end up looking out of place.

Nah, Forge World took the liberty of excluding the little sand-bag hut and changing the ground from metal beams to rectangular things.

Yeah that's what looked similar, obviously the rectangle is basically the same but they took the roof off of the hut.

How much was that back in the day Absolutionis?

I believe the newsletter said that it was hollow bodied. Either way, it seems in line with the price of other FW offerings, no real surprise on the price.

Emplacement isn't that exciting. Also though FW was getting out of doing terrain. If they're going to keep up with terrain they need to make the anphelion base available again.

That's not my image, and I'm not entirely sure of the price. I might have an old Forge World catalogue lying around here somewhere, but I cannot find it.

Either way, the Earthshaker Emplacement did come with the Earthshaker cannon itself. That and it was likely not the hollow piece presented here. If it were more expensive, the price would be justified.

On further glance at the sandbags, the Earthshaker Emplacement and this new Emplacement are quite different; likely the same concept but different models altogether.

Resins cheap dawg, it's expensive because it's bigish and forge world is a boutique supplier.

If they want to do something exciting they can re-do their Tyranid terrain.

I second that. The tyranid terrain and the Tau emplacements were both awesome, and both made me consider those armies.

The "solid brick of resin" part referred to the Tarantula Sentry Emplacement.

It's on their to-do list, but it may not be the same as what already exists. There's been talk of a ROB tile that is made to appear like a Tyranid nesting ground.

Yay. (/deadpan)

I don't mind if the terrain is different to the Spore Chimneys, but I do hope it's separate from the RoB nonsense.

Might be, might not be.

It's all still very early planning stages from my understanding. The important thing to remember is that they do want to do a RoB tile for each of their books from now on, and may or may not have terrain separate from them depending on what they're doing.

Emplacement is boring, I remember the old version that was pretty much the same price but you got an earthshaker cannon with it, now it is just some flat thing with sandbags...

Tantalus is excellent! I like it much more than the last DE ship, the design is very clever especially the way the sail goes under the craft.

Those both look pretty cool. I really like the design of the Tantalus, and both models look like they are worth the price.

That sail being held by that tiny, flimsy resin rod seems like terrible deisgn. Best thing to do when building a Tantalus is going to be replacing that with brass rod ASAP.

Agreed. The tantalus is the sort of model that I would put a lot of effort into painting... and then never play with. One wrong move, and that thing is toast. Beautiful, but so fragile.

Also, that tank is a terrible tank to put in an emplacement It can only fire straight forward and has no room to pivot.

Sooo- the Tantalus is a close-assault superheavy skimmer, it seems. Hmmm. That's not going to be very survivable on the table. Pity, because that is one _gorgeous_ model.

Infinity: Way, way better than 40K and more affordable to boot!

It won't help, since the part that rod is attached to is tiny and slim. There's no way in Hell the model could withstand even a light accident. Perhaps not even handling.

The supply does not get to make the demands.

The Micro-Arts one looks like it'd be good for infantry, but I don't think I could fit a tank in there...

Bookmarking that emplacement though. It'll look fancy on my Cadia table when I get it going.
