I was having a chat with my brother (while watching Jersery Shore, yes I had to say it...) and he gave me this idea about painting my boys faces Black (Not the Skin colour) just Matt Black. The idea is sort of based of the movie Predator when Arnold wiped his face with really dark mud, I just though It might look cool. What do you guys think about it? got any ideas that are mabye similar to this?
Cheers

Might look good, but might also seem a bit lazy on your part. Would you use highlights on the faces, or just paint black and color the eyes?

Well I would add washes and do a little bit of highlighting, I wouldn't just spray the model with a undercoat of matt black, paint the figure and leave the face and arms out lol.
But yea I see what you mean

How about using a carrot colour for their faces, and call them all Snookorks?
On topic: No, I don't like it. Orks are green. Some tribes use blue paint. That's it...

You should drybrush it over skin.

You could maybe basecoat with a dark grey, light drybrush with a light grey, even lighter drybrush with white - and then tone it all done with 2 washes of Badab Black. This would still give you black faces, but with much more shadows and definition.
Do a test model and show us a pic how it turns out!

I think that'd look really cool. I gotta repeat what's already been said, washes and highlights would really set it off.
I reckon it'd look awesome with really bright red eyes, quite a contrast, but that's just me
Can't wait to see how it looks

You should just paint it the way you like it. Fluff is there to be bent =P
at the end of the day they're just funnily shaped bits of plastic with fancy paints on them.

I found this video that might be useful. It goes over painting orks in alternative colors. It doesn't go over painting them black, but you might check it out for ideas. Its also pretty interesting.

if you painted their skin green then did black warpaint over it it could look good, but it would only make sense if they were blood axes...

@Tona7: I'm actualy using that very video to paint my orks I always thought giving every ork the exact same skin tone seemed a bit unrealistic. Just like humans, I assume Orks also vary slightly from induvidual to induvidual? At least it seems more interesting to me.
@jordanis: does it say anywhere in the fluff the other clans don't wear warpaint at all? I can't imagine that...

Yeah that video is sweet.
I'm still trying to work out the basics of painting myself (I need to get highlighting and shading down) so my first experiment using the stuff from the video was sort of a fluke. Since then I've been painting my orks like standard orks to practice and learn, but I really liked the idea and once I get decent enough I think I'll go back and try it on a couple of my earlier models.

I think warpaint is probably common among all of the clans, but subdued colors and camoflauge would be specific to Blood Axes, as they are the only ones that believe in sneaking up on their enemies. Blue is common on the Deathskulls, but I could see red on the Evil Suns and white on the Goff.
It really comes down to how you want to express your Waagh! and if you are using the established clands and tribes or going with something new.

yeah. Also warpaints would be fun to paint and experiment with, the posibilities are almost endless and it gives a bit of variation in a sea of green =P
I'm painting a small (AoBR) group of orks myself, in the bad moons scheme, maybe I will give a couple of them warpaint that fits with the yellow.

Ive been wanting to paint either a white hand over my boyz faces, or a white "skull" over their faces. Possibly just the Nobz/boss in my army. Never got around to doing it, I know I will soonish though, I need to stop procrastinating
So in short, just do it man, youll thank yourself for it
