I was wondering what the cheapest $$$ wise army was to start for WHB... looking at getting to around 1500-2000 pts

Ogres probably
1 Battalion plus a Tyrant and Butcher, if you are comfortable enough in conversions you could make your own and with the savings buy 2 battalions. Then I'd grab 2 boxes of Mourfangs and 2 iron blasters and that should put you at 2k.

Lizardmen are also pretty cheap. Basically, any army where you can take a lord/hero with lots of customizations that aren't represented on the model. Like a Slann can be 250-600 or so points and look exactly the same.

Ogres or Warriors of chaos.

Both have expensive core which are awesome.

Woc have more expensive awesome lords.

Warriors of Chaos, using Ogre kingdom Ogres as Chaos Ogres.

Cheap x Cheap!

Expect to pay around $250 to $300 to start any army, although the above armies will get you closer to the 1500-2000 range for that much.

I said hey I want to play a cheap ($) army for fantasy and I loved the warrior models and their lords.
Now I have a large army and wonder where i strayed off the path.

Best thing to do is pick an army that you like the models and fluff for and start collecting slowly rather than a big chunk.
The reason being you will spend more money on them because the more familiar you get with an army the more different thing you will most likely want to try.

That being said it will not always mean hey they have a different banner or the lord has different stuff on him but more like, that unit looks great good stats and they would work well with this etc etc.

My point is go with what you like rather than budget because if you start slower you will spend less money on models that you find out are not as good as you thought or they dont work the way you want them to and dont use them again that money could be better invested in something else.

Best thing is when you pick models you like check out the army book look at the fluff check out the fancy things the army has etc.

Then go for models that will save you lots of headaches and money how ever that means not getting a pile of models now.

Have a serious look at the Chaos Ogres, they are rather amazing even compared to the new Ogre Kingdom.
( same good Ogre stats, and you still get to choose different gears. You get heavy armor as default, can even get Chaos armor )
You get Will of Chaos, and you can get Marks of Chaos per unit ( which means if you make your units bigger its so cheap )
If you buy a chaos battalion, you can give the flails to marauders ( can count as flail or great weapons ) and give their shield to the ogres.

Here is what they look like with the marauder shield.
Then, you can have like 2 armies for price of 1 ( ish xD )

That and if you dont like chaos ogres you could always play them as normal ogres.

I have been giving this some real thought Luna love the ogre models ya you can make them chaos really easily you dont even really need bits just paint a simple chaos star every now and then and paint em dark and angry and you are set.

Still they are a really good deal 6 bulls for 50 bucks (canadian) is awesome wish trolls were that cheap.

Im actually making an effort, even gave them proper bases ( still need sand and dirt glued )

You know this jsut throws my converting dwarfs to chaos dwarfs way off course right since I really like the idea of giant hungry always hungry men holding cannons (since I am usually hungry all the time too like most guys ).

Hmm could be a cheap army haha and would work with my woc.

Right now im working on another hybrid model ( that SHOULD work for both Warrior of Chaos + Ogre Kingdom )

Im making a Sky Titan.
Because the size of it, its enough to be Chaos Hell Cannon, or 2 Iron Blasters.

Now im trying to decide whether to give it 1 Iron blaster cannon, or 1 on each arm ( then i have to buy another box and im too cheap to )

The cannon isnt that big its a lil squar i would say 100x100 i do like the idea of a cannon witch shoots cannonballs as grape shot.

Maybe back or shoulder mounted?
Like the big things in gears?
Or make it hold it like a leadbelcher

The cannons itself isn't big but the titan is huge!

Issue is i suck at modelling and anything not plastic im really stuck ...

If you want you could post or send e some pics and I could maybe give you some points im not the best modeler but i have crazy ideas which turn out cool.

What model are you using as the titan? (sounds big really big like makes giant look small sort of big).

K like i said i SUCK at modelling ( so i got the pieces prepared but i don't know how to glue / greenstuff them together... i'll just
put them together so you get an idea >.<

Well best thing i can say is put green stuff in the gaps then glue it wait till its all dried. Scrape off green stuff no seems no nothing.

Maybe go to your local hobby store someone may be able to give you tips ans such.

And.... done. Took forever to get it to not fall off rofl

Im very tempted to just use green stuff ( or more blu tac ) to just have it stuck on...

Cant really imagine using zap a gap or super glue to make a slobbering mess within the spaces
Also the cannon is abit small in ratio, not sure what to do about it

PVC pipe? That's all that cones to mind fill it with marbles add plastic card to make it look more cannon like and done.

That's all I can think of.

$-wise, if you buy, buy ebay. If you keep up with the auctions, you can get NIB or NOS for 1/2 what you'd pay at a store.

This puts Ogres pretty far down on the list, since all the fair-weather fans are bidding now that the new army book has been released. You should, however, be able to get a good stock of an older army fairly cheap.

When I started playing Ogres a few years ago, I amassed a 2k point army for pennies on the dollar.
