I am real new to 40k (not even a first army yet) that is actually why I am here. I am kinda hoping if I give some ideas that you guys could help me pick an army to play as. If you can that would be great so here it goes.

Lists of wants and my play style

- I like assault but not only that but I also like to sit back and shot stuff with some stuff going in for close quarters
- I like my army to be varied can fill all kinds of diff roles but them to be good at those rules not just ok at them
- I like transports and I also like creatures that deal huge damage
- The army will need to win because I hate losing
- low to mid price point because for now I don't have the funds to pour into it for the more expensive armies

Hello and welcome to the hobby.

With that list ... uh, Space Marines seem like a good start? They're pretty much the "entry level" army in that they are somewhat more forgiving than others, meaning that a mistake may not be as catastrophical. Furthermore, Marines have superb jetpack Assault units whilst also sporting good ranged support with their Devastator squads. Plus, they're fairly money-efficient when it comes to point cost vs model count.

I'm just not sure about the "huge damage", but I would say there are at least a couple special characters that can kick some serious butt.

With that, I suppose Marine players could give you more and better advice and help you choose a Chapter, provided you do not have any preferences to their fluff or looks and are purely gunning for efficiency.

Yep, SM tend to be the standard start set , and since you want to win(don't expect to make to many friends that way ) i'd recomend either Space Wolves or Grey Knights

Yeah, that sounds like Space Marines through and through. The only thing you'd be missing is "large creatures" which would be subbed out for dreadnoughts. Alternately, you could go for Chaos Marines, who are the evil, twisted and traitorous brethren of the Space Marines. They get some big nasty daemons in addition to having tough troops who are good at shooting and assaulting, readily available transports, and a fairly powerful (if somewhat limited) codex. Also, their armies tend to be fairly small, so it won't be entirely too hard on your wallet.

Judging your list I'd say Wolves or Grey Knights.
Maybe Blood Angels.

Chaos space marines. Why?

1. All units have at least 2 attacks standard, and all but a few of the demons come with ranged weapons you can shoot before assaulting. Or just shoot more.

2. Varied roles = marks. Need more attacks? Invun save? +1 initiative? +1 toughness? Also, OBLITERATORS, the Swiss army knife of 40k

3. Has transports, and vehicles that can always shoot and move unless destroyed. Huge creatures = demon princes or a greater demon.

4. The army can and will win, regardless of what others say. Just don't make a list of all chaos spawn.

5. They are marines, so their models are cheap for lots of points.

I played two games this morning. One was with Chaos Marines and the Other was with Space Wolves. I came out liking the Space Wolves more. Mainly because with Chaos Marines yeah they fit better to the list I made but when I got to looking at them and their codex for story I just didn't like them. Now my main question is where is a good starting point for Space Wolves? and if I wanted to do SM is it better to use a chapter from the codex or make your own?

So let me get this straight, you want an army that assaults really well, while also shooting really well. It has a lot of variety in its abilities, yet its really good at all those abilities. It has both transports and monstrous creatures. This army needs to win all the time, because you are a sore loser, and of course it has to be light on the wallet.

Well, when you find this army, let me know, because I would love to have the perfect army too.

Snarkyness aside, like others have said go marines. I would suggest grey knights. They shoot really well (stormbolters everywhere, psycannon, psyfleman dreads), all of their infantry have power weapons plus they have 2 wound terminators with 2+ CC invlun saves. Their transports have a great psychic power to help save them, as well as the always fun storm raven, and they have a terminator armor wearing monstrous creature. They are considered one of the best armies right now, and because of their crazy expensive troops, you can field a really small army (therefore a lower price tag).

However, I would suggest just looking for the army you like the look of most. You could have the greatest army in the world, but if you don't like painting and modelling them, they are eventually going to wear on you. Inversely, if you really love the look and fluff of your army, you will try really hard at making them great, and in most cases they can make a fairly decent army.

Start with two Space Wolves boxes to get 2 squads of 10 Grey Hunters. These will start things off nicely. Next get a box of Space Wolves Terminators - you can make a Terminator squad, and bling up one of the 5 to be a wolf lord. With these three boxes you're looking at close to 750 points (depending on equipment) for like $130, and add another $30 or so for a codex on top of that.

Not going for them because my cousin has them. Anytime I wanna use them I can so I am not making it the personal choice for my army

You would buy all that from a gaming store or GWs website or another online retailer.
Or perhaps even the SwapShop

Blood Angels aren't as shooty as you would like. They are predominantly an assault army. They mostly have guns just to have something to do in the shooting phase, and to hurt tanks.

Ah. That sums it up then. I am most certain I will be choosing Space Wolves for my army

Where is a good place to buy all that?

The Warstore is a good place to buy from. Unfortunately, due to GW policy, they can't have an online shopping cart. Their website is here: http://www.thewarstore.com/
Ring them up and ask for whatever 40k stuff you want. They sell at 20% cheaper than GW's retail price, so you'll save some money. They're a sponsor of Dakka if I recall correctly, and are a great bunch of guys. I buy stuff from them regularly.
