Ok I like to stop in my LGS from time to time after i get off work. I have a little bit of spare time after i get off before i have to pick up my daughter from day care. So I'm in the store mainly because i really want to see the finecast stuff and to chat with the local manager. Found out the reason they don't stock it is because of the bad casting mistakes. which means i have to drive to Sac to get any. They did have one by mistake so i got a chance to look one over but that's covered in the modeling thread.

I was looking at all the metals they have on the wall since most people seem to be scrambling for metals rather than finecast. The whole wall seemed to be Sisters of Battle with a few space wolf, daemons and one captain Badrak i think is how you spell it. I was excited when i saw it because i liked the look of him in my codex. Now i had been looking over the other models and most were around 12-15 dollars so was a little startled when i turned badrak over and it said $45. I asked the manager about it to see if it was a mistake and he said o ya it was probably gone up since then. So he checks online and i figured it had gone up but to my surprise the manager tells me that hes actaully gone down to $25. At this point I've already got my hand on my wallet and ask so its 25 then, but he tells me no its still 45 because that's the price it cost to get the fig way back when. Now I understand what hes saying but at the same time I'm thinking why would anyone pay double for something when they don't have to just because the store but this guy at a higher price and still wants to price the fig at said price when it can be bought cheaper.

I'm not saying that a store cant price there stuff how they want to but it just doesn't make since to me to pay twice what its being sold for normally. I had planned to make an online order for some more vallejo paints this month but i would have bought that fig then and there had he asked what it sold for now. I understand that they would have lost a bit of money but isn't that part of business. You buy things for your customers to purchase from you, but if the price drops that drastically do you still charge the higher price or lose the business to another store or online. I'm asking honestly because i know we have one or two store owners on dakka and I'm just interested on the inner workings of a hobby store. Whenever i try asking my local stores about it i get this really weird look like i just made the biggest foupa in the world.

Since when did GW knock 20 dollars off a figure
Sounds odd to me.
I agree. Unless he hopes to sell at $45 to someone not in the know, he will have an unsold model on the rack for all time.

If he sold it to you for $25 that will be around cost price if what he said was true. To me it would be better to get the cost price back. No sale means he gets bugger all back.

The shop owners here may know otherwise of course

Didn't the Ogre tyrant/bruiser and the butcher models go down in price? I could have sworn they went down like 10$.

I have also seen a couple other models go down by a dollar or 2 (usd), so it's not unheard of OP, but I have never seen 20 or 20+ drop.

Yeah, it's Kaptin Badrukk. He never cost $45, except for maybe in Australia; GW's least favorite country. Your store screwed up, since he has never, ever cost that much and certainly doesn't now. I'd bring back the figure and/or a receipt and get the $20 they overcharged you back. Talk to the manager if need be. It was probably an honest mistake but who knows.

I actually didn't buy it since he wanted so much. His reasoning was it was because if shipping or something. I wasn't buying it. No way it cost 20 dollars to ship one fig.

You are free to report his store to GW for price gouging, which you can argue to them is causing people to shy away from the products. That will get them acting in a hurry.

I've noticed that they price there products based on eBay prices. To be competitive they say. I have noticed they don't mind raising prices but not lowering them when the products drop in price.

That is... Ow, my brain.

This policy seems like a really, really bad idea, particularly since Ebay prices can be way above or way below what the RRP for the figure is.

It is also almost impossible for one figure to have a shipping cost of 20$, at least, not to a retail store. While I have not worked in hobby stores, I assume that they operate like many retail business and order large amounts of items at the same time to get bulk purchase and shipping dicounts, so that the cost after mark-up to the consumer would be at about RRP.

Have a nice day.
