Subject: Rarity of the older cardboard terrain sets?

So i've been looking for the older box set terrain GW did back in the 90's i believe it was, the imperial Bastion, fire bse etc, and was wondering how rare ti is nowdays. I've seen the Fire base and bastion around alot, but the imperial command center and imperial battlebunker. I don't even remember seeing them back in the day when I collected and was wondering if they were normal or splash releases like the powerplant was. Checked quickly through my old white dwarves and don't even see mention of them or am I blind?
I'm asking because i'm looking for the remaining ones (As per my trade thread) but wanted to see if there would be much luck of me finding them (If splash release then very little chance i'm assuming), and if someone knows wher ei could find them these days.
Thanks

They weren't so much "splash releases" as edition releases. Most of them were for the 2nd edtion period (when Necromunda and Gorkamorka shared them as well). They were quite easily found at the time. 15 years later and they are somewhat rare, but enough of them were made that there should still be a lot out there. There were two problems. 1. Card bits. Unless treated carefully, they won't last forever (and by properly, I mean permanently attaching and base mounting the pieces and careful handling and storage). 2. The bulkhead bits are still in great demand. They are cool. They scale with even current GW plastic terrain. If I see a handful for sale 2nd hand around my area, I'll snap them up. I picked up the Dark Angels campaign box "Storm of Vengeance" with card terrain in it during the early days of 3rd ed for example (it was a 2nd ed campaign with all the rules being 2nd ed (modifiers out the wazoo, etc). The GW store marked it down to get rid of it because it (the rules part) was "obsolete" (like terrain goes obsolete). My club still has the bastion ( which is now a plastic kit ) and a couple of other pieces still in use, and still intact. It's hard to find replacement bits, but I scour the 2nd hand markets for it. Ebay or larger convention 2nd hand stalls are your best bets.

I'm OVER 50 (and so far over everyone's BS, too).
Old enough to know better, young enough to not give a ****.
That is not dead which can eternal lie ...

They're hard to find. I've got an Ork fort but that's it.

Damn, i was hoping not to hear that. I've found the powerplant though slightly worn, found quite a few of the fire bases and bastions, but todate have not had luck finding the command center and battle bunker and wanted to get hold of them for old times sake and also fro some fun terrain.
Ebay's turned up neither of those 2 but has had firebases + Bastions.
Wish GW would release these in plastic exactly the same as they were.

They are rare. I have never seen them on eBay, and a buddy of mine has two of them, mint-in-box that he bought new years ago. I f memory serves me correctly, the plastic pieces are the same bulkheads as the Necromunda kits, and those pieces go for a mint on eBay themselves...

Yeah the firebase was a great little kit tbh, a plastic version would be great.

There are plenty of places that still do cardboard terrain, and it's a worthy investment to learn how to amek it yourself. It's fairly easy really. Just need some measuring tools, a razor, paint, and tape.

I've got the Bastion, Battle Bunker and Fire Base. Bought them when they came out. I almost got the other one, the Command thingy, in an eBay auction but got distracted and missed out seconds before the end.
Never seen it since.

The plastic bulkheads are in demand, I sold 10 for £15 and that's about average on eBay.
You might get some old buildings by picking up old issues of WD, issue #214 came out for Gorkamorka and had a huge minehead.

haven't seen a battle bunker yet and wanting both to add to the collection. Are you keeping them or open to trades?

Don't forget the bunker that appeared in WD 169 or White Dwarf Presents: Warhammer 40,000 battles which had three of them in. They're worth getting.
I've been watching these for a while. The Firebase and bastion are quite common and 1-2 appear each month. However the Imperial Battle Bunker and Command tower pieces are rare (along with the storm of vengeance). The Ork stronghold is the rarest of them all. I've only ever see 1-2 a year at most and not always in good condition.

That is some awesome stuff. And cheap enough you could easily build an entire city with it.
Cool link.
