I posted here because it's more of a modelling question but it may also involve the gaming side. I've got the Sanguinor model and I'm not keen on sticking him on the standard 25mm base, I've lost count of how many times St Celestine has fallen over simply because of the small base! So I reckon that I should use a 40mm base. Model wise this is not a problem, but if i decide to field him in battle would the bigger base cause objections?

Depends on the player, generally though you want to put them on the same size base as the one they were provided with. I would recommend sticking with the smaller base and just weighting it dow.

base him on the same size base with magnets underneath
get a bigger base and magnetize it so you can slap the 25mm onto it for stability and remove if necessary

If someone has a problem with you using a 40mm base on what will probably the centerpiece of your army then I simply would not play them. I hate people who whine and complain about stupid things that dont have to have an effect on the Game. I say go for the bigger base

It provides you with little or no advantage and several disadvantages, no reason your opponent should object. I'm also pretty sure the rulebook specifically mentions using larger bases but ATM am both too lazy and tired to check if it even says to ask permission.

There are always rule lawyers who will object to such a move and will complain to no end. Just weigh the base of the model down and save yourself some headaches. :-)

The thing is it's actually a rule and the complaining would likely be their objection to what they perceive as cheating. It's like if I showed up with a Storm Shield on each and every single marine so they all had a 3+ Invul save. Surly a much larger impact on the game itself than the base size, but manipulating the rules none the less.

Personally I'd just face them, it looks like it belongs on a 40mm base anyway. It looks way too top heavy to be able to go on any hills if stuck on a 25mm one, it's like the old metal cannon for the Fireprism or the metal railguns on the broadsides; doesn't make sense and allows the model to pretend to be sonic on any uneven surfaces.

I could see someone being against it if every model with a 25mm base in his army had a 40mm base instead, that could be compared to your stormshield example. But one model, especially a command model that is so top heavy, should never be complained about. It's not a big deal. It's not like he's putting him on a dreadnought base

Finland... the country next to Sweden? No! That's Norway! Finland is to the east! No! That's Russia!

Put him on an oval base, make him float, and OSL the base.

No, just Nurgle and Slaanesh, Jesus will be sold seperately in a blister.

For 40k I have to say, I would not do it, but I would play with somebody has done it.

Grundz has a genius idea with magnetizing it, even if it does screw TLOS. But that is the thing, in a game where TLOS is a worry, say a tourney, you would have the small base anyway. Sorts itself out really.

As for games like Warmachine or LOTR, I would not dream of doing something like that. But nobody plays LOTR, unfortunately. And PP have a habit of placing their miniatures on very nicely sized bases.
