Subject: Tau Suits!

Please no haters, for general tau users please
I dont see why tau users hate stealth suits so much, everyone ive met at workshop and my friends that tau them dispise them, honeslty i freaking love them!
admittedly there 30 points a peice, but this comes with 3 strength 5 shots, there jump infantry and stealthed! for only 30 points!
Crisis suits are a default 25 points, but these are without weapon systems easily clocking upto 40-90 points before they even become mean machines of waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaargh!
i admit crisis suits can provide with massive ammounts of firepower with meltas, burst cannons missle pods and plasma cannons
but stealthsuits have burst cannons by default, and can easily get meltas.
but honestly, what makes me say that? because ive subbed crisis suits (using my mates actual suits [is that technically subbing?]) with varying weapons outputs and honestly? i dont like them, they seem expensive for something a mixture of broadsides and stealthsuits can do more effectively, ok this might end up being a lil expensive point wise, with the mobility of the suits they can make effective tank hunters with broadsides taking the flack from any tanks just from there basic weapon on rear armour (normally 10-11 Russ Varients for examples), because as ive seen people underestimate them, while i understand why people like crisis i dont see why they dispite stealthsutis so much, as far as i can see they have everything going for them, and yes 18 inch range, but common there str 5 ap5 with a 12 inch move range along with infiltrate and stealth! for 30 points! well worth it in my opinion!
ok i think ive made my point, i might of ranted im sorry, but i dont understand this hatred of steathsuits, in my opinion, they might be limited in weaponry choices but what they have avalible to them make them a fearsome force to be reconed with, and the cheeper option compaired to crisis teams which people would see and think "oh hes bulky with obvious weapons, quick target before it gets close" compaired to the rather (deceptivly) weak looking stealth suits from what ive seen most people dismiss until they start truely being mobile
so come on im intrested in your views on why there so hated

Ok nicely you've avoided their Defensive statistics. They're fragile and expensive.
Ok you take a Suit I take 5 Orks. You are within 18" which is my charge range to fire. Not a good plan.
They're to close for comfort and for their points. They've got some upsides but anything that directs and attention to them will wipe them. Or you have your suits and get Longer Range more firepower durability and you keep your Mobility.
That enough for you? They're fun and you can use them, but Suits are better. You've not convinced me.

Lack of versatility, very limited range weapons which force you to stay closer than your effective stealth range and T3.
XV8s live longer and hit harder, simple as that.

I don't know I quite like mine. I recently used them instead of a devilfish against a marine force in a low ish points game. the addition of markerlight drones and a few more shots was good, but really the upside was the way my opponent hated them for the stealth. They were shot at like twice in the entire game and managed to survive both times. In that way, they avoided more firewarrior deaths. But against an opponent who had played Tau more, and understood just to leave them be they would have been fairly useless bar the extra markerlights.
And as for the 5 orks and 18" thing, surely you would jet pack 6" into 18" and then back out again? I honestly have mmore problems with the fact that they dont really offer anything over a fire warrior unit apart from perhaps infiltrate.
I will be using them again but only because I have a lack of troops as I would prefer to take crisis suits over them.

I personally dislike stealth suits because their only strong point is anti infantry. If you add meltas, and want 2, you have 2 melta shots and 4 burst cannon shots, meaning your only'ok' at two things, rather then very good at one thing.
Battleuits are more focused, and you have the option to optomize them to combat different enemies but only if your willing to pay the price. Stealth suits don't even give you the option. Also, you opt toughness for stealth, but the short range of thier guns makes them easily reached by enemy guns who will wound you eaiser.
Also the 30pts a piece isn't worth it. (40 if you like to hit your targets)

They are too soft. Sure 18 S5 AP5 shots sounds cool....Untill you look at the Tau Codex and see that they can take that everywhere else.
For the same slot I can get bladestorms to attach to my Ionknife Shas'el. the bladestorms are 174 and the commander is an even 100, but you need the commander regardless.
The bladestorms alone get you 3-6 S6 AP2 shots and 9 S5 AP5 shots. The Shas'el gives you 5 S3 AP4 rending shots and 1-2 s6 ap2 shots.
All of this on a T4 weapon platform with 2 wounds.
If you really want to have some suits for infantry killing, look at The Bladestorms over Stealth Suits.
And that is only one configuration. Since the crisis suits can be kitted out for any job you want, they are more versatile.
Stealth Suits only bring more of what we already have plenty of, S5 shots. The Meltas are not worth it because you have to be close to even fire the weapon and you have to be in assault range to even get the extra D6. On your T3 I2 1W 30-40 point models.

Problem is that 2/3rds of them must be equipped with burst cannons. This means the unit performs the same role as kroot and firewarriors. Because the latter are scoring and stealth suits are not, they are not going to be taken in most competitive list. Its almost always worth it to have the extra scoring units on the table instead of the stealth suits. If they could take different equipment, or if firewarriors could be equipped for a non anti-infantry role they would be great, if a bit expensive(the whole codex suffers from that though). As is they are just not viable.

Stealth Suits bring only Burst Cannons and Fusion Blasters to the fight.
Burst Cannons are eveywhere in the Tau codex so its not a real benifit.
Fusion Blasters are super short ranged, a distance that Stealth Suits don't like because their Stealth ability works better at longer ranges and they also suffer from the general Tau allergy to close combat.
If they could all take Fusion Blasters they would actually be semi-useful as a cheaper suicide Melta unit. but its only 1 per 3.
Another fix would be if they had access to all the other weapons XV8s have. choice of Burst Cannon, Missile Pod, Plasma Rifle, Fusion Blaster, or Flamer would actually allow them to function as a weapon spam unit which can hopefully suicide in and blow something up. or if they could all take Marker lights.
These shortcomings, combined with them competing for space with XV8s, seals the coffin.

They are fragile, expensive, can't take anything but a burst cannon and 1 fusion blaster per every so many guys.
And (main point) they reduce the amount of battle suits your force can take.
I love stealth suits, but I find taking them is just too much of a points sink.

Stealth Suits would make sense if there was some way to take XV8s in another slot. Maybe if Farsight made em troops. Then Stealth Suits would be half-way decent.
Or maybe make Stealth Suits into Fast Attack? That would certaintly be interesting and they might compete well with Piranhas in terms of purpose in that situation.
