...And it is incredible. Since it is only a rental from the video store I work at, I did not get the code to play multiplayer, but I was able to get a good two and a half hours in of single player, and intend to beat the campaign by monday night. The game looks, sounds and feels amazing. And this is all on Xbox 360, and I'm still impressed by the graphics. I was really worried about the game after playing the beta and seeing how horrible the textures looked, but all my doubts have been obliterated. I'm not even a single player kind of guy either, multiplayer is the first thing I go to and I usually don't even bother with single player for a couple weeks. It feels tactical, you will get gunned down quickly if you carelessly sprint out of cover or try to run and gun. The guns feel like they have more recoil, which you probably noticed in the beta.
Sorry for the disorganized text about it, I'm pretty damn excited, but I need sleep. I will definitely be posting my thoughts on the campaign as a whole soon.

Here let me clear up a few things for you regarding your above statements and why some are silly.
1) Demos on XBox live have a file size that MS makes sure people don't go over. This means that generally demos are lower res on purpose to save memory, fit more content in the demo and stay under the file size limit for demos on XBox Live.
2) In multiplayer modes, in most games on an XBox, textures are generally reduced because of the increase demand of multiple players, networking and other large level issues that you encounter in most MP maps. They aren't built like SP maps where you can gate the player more and direct him through streaming file loads.
3) If you thought it looked good playing SP on the XBox, do not, under any circumstances visit a friend with a good PC that is playing this game. It will break your little heart. You have been warned.
So never judge a demo's graphics, especially a multiplayer demo, very harshly. Judge it on gameplay. When playing on your old eXtinctBox that is.

I'm fully aware that it looks way better on PC, I've been watching every trailer they've released for the game but I'm still impressed by the graphics on Xbox. I prefer FPS gaming on consoles to PC, is that alright or do you have to flame me for that too? And it still means the multiplayer graphics will be on par with the single player. Furthermore, I don't know if you played the beta, but the gameplay wasn't too impressive.

I just like reading the game guide in the back during slow times of business. It gives me all of the technical information I need while keeping the actual experience fresh for when I actually get it. By the way, I think Best Buy also has a download you can get for nine dollars off... not too sure though.

I'm about three quarters of the way through the single player and I'm started to feel disappointed. While I love the gameplay, the story, plot and missions are still all very mediocre. I started out expecting a bit more from the game, but maybe it will end with a bang. It is definitely heavily influenced by COD, and while the gameplay is still more like Battlefield, being narrowly guided through missions among other things give off a COD vibe. I'm still very optimistic about the multiplayer though, since the gameplay is top notch. It just feels like they tried to make a COD-esque campaign with all the same cinematic moments and action packed missions, but kind of missed the mark. You also replay the memories of a guy being interrogated, just like in Black Ops...

I'm going to stop you right there, first of all you're kind of ruining the story for everyone. I could tell people how it ends right now because I've read the guide for it but I refuse to.
Secondly, the story that Modern Warfare had not only ripped off Battlefield: Modern Combat for the X-Box and PS2, but ripped off "Red Storm Rising" which is a book by Tom Clancy.
Red Storm Rising: Terrorist group wants Russia to fight a war against Western Europe and America. Terrorist group commits a terrorist act. Russians invade Western Europe. America retaliates and so on and on.
Modern Combat: The single player campaign game revolves around a fictional war between NATO and China that takes place in Kazakhstan. The media on both sides air propaganda that accuses the other of war crimes while the player fights for each nation back and forth. When the player eventually chooses a side to lead to victory, it is revealed that a terrorist organization called Burning Flag is responsible for misleading both NATO and China into starting the war. The winning side must then stop Burning Flag's leader, Commander 31, from launching 3 nuclear ICBMs at the United States, Europe and China; failure would mean neither side would have anything left to fight for or live for. After Commander 31 is defeated, the war is officially over.

And I wasn't accusing BF of ripping off COD, just noting that it's nothing wonderfully original or groundbreaking. The campaign was very very average, aside from a different ending.

So it was using the story it always had used. Besides, the average campaign is expected simply because its a multiplayer focused game and always has been a multiplayer focused game. In all honesty, trying the actual game before street date is kind of pointless because you can't play online.

I'm not criticizing the game, multiplayer is really the only thing I care about either, but a cool campaign would have been a nice bonus, and some people do care about the campaign more so I was providing my opinion. And are you saying you wouldn't take the game home early if you were offered it for free? Beyond that, I think I might have been able to play online, I have for other games prestreet like GOW3 I just didn't have the code for MP, and I wasn't about to pat 800 MSP for it when I will probably be picking up a new copy of the game Tuesday (the copy I have right now is only a rental). I don't see why I'm getting ripped on for this...

But yeah, wouldn't want to risk anything by playing a game early because sometimes people will get upset and people who have played early(usually pirated games) sometimes get banned or get their console locked out of access to XBL.

Get with the times! XP is now an unsupported OS, and is a decade old. You get better driver support and a better interface in W7. Honestly, you cannot go wrong with this game on PC, yes 360 (and I think PS3) includes the texture packs, but I guarantee you it will look better and play better.

This same thing happened with Bad Company and Bad Company 2. DICE is trying to win over the Modern Warfare crowd by having the same type of single-player campaign to lead people into the far superior multiplayer (which it has always had; it was just missing the cinematic appeal of Modern Warfare). If you had played either Bad Company game, you definitely should've seen this coming. The singleplayer is stripped of so many elements that make Battlefield great that it's more like a nice little bonus than a focal point.
I would've been perfectly happy without a single player campaign. After all, the series went through four entries with nothing but single player bot matches, and it seems kind of silly to criticize Battlefield 3 for giving you a decent campaign in addition to the excellent multiplayer component. Chances are, if you actually waited for the release of the game, you wouldn't have been disappointed in the slightest.

You're saying that it was a rental, that's not getting the game for free that's borrowing it I'm sorry, I meant getting to play the game early... And to be honest when it comes to battlefield games(which on the PC didn't have a story campaign until Bad Company) I could care less about the campaign because its a multiplayer game at heart. I've already stated that I thought some people want to know how the campaign was, as one person as already posted about specifically the campaign... That and if I can't play online then why bother getting it early, seriously I don't care if you got a copy early, chances are you aren't the only one. Did anyone ask if you cared whether or not I got it early? I know I'm not the only one, I would probably be playing against other people if I had the multiplayer code. But yeah, wouldn't want to risk anything by playing a game early because sometimes people will get upset like you? and people who have played early(usually pirated games) sometimes get banned or get their console locked out of access to XBL. Hasn't happened to me before with numerous games... In response to chrysaor, I'm not disappointed with the game, just the single player. I know the multiplayer will be amazing They seemed like they were trying to hype up their single player component to be better than it was.

I haven't played the game early, we have copies of the strategy guide and read those during luls in business. This allowed me to do research on the mulitplayer aspect as well as get the story for the campaign without having to open a copy of the game up, if you're a rental place you'll either sell the copy you used for less(hopefully unlike gamestop that sells them as new) or use them for rentals. Where I work, I just get a 10% discount, but that's good enough for me if we get the guides and I know what I'm looking at when it comes out.

Well I meant that people like EA would get upset, plenty of people got prestreet copies of ODST and then their system stopped working due to some epic banhammering on Microsoft's part. But because its EA they might not do anything because its not an exclusive title to a certain console.
I could care less if you got a prestreet copy or not, in fact I can imagine you saying "He Jelly" as you wrote that comment. What that says about a certain person's character... well I will leave that for you to decide.

I was giving him garbage for saying that the game's campaign copied off of Call of Duty, which is something that always makes me angry. Its like people who say that Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine is a copy of Gears of War.

I was giving him garbage for saying that the game's campaign copied off of Call of Duty, which is something that always makes me angry. Its like people who say that Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine is a copy of Gears of War.
Funny, because I have clearly stated that isn't my opinion. I just noted that it bore a similarity, and that it is nothing wonderfully original (I believe I said something very similar in an earlier post?). And if you don't care so much if I got it early, then why the hell are you going out of your way to tell me repeatedly?

Maybe you should read my posts before flaming?

Yes, maybe you should read your own posts.
I reiterate, you were wrong in the assumption that it was influenced by CoD. However, after finishing the story I can see why you would see why it could be influenced by CoD, but only in the names of certain things being used. Other than that I would have to say that the campaign was actually worth it, I would have to say that I enjoyed the particular story and there were several parts that made me go "That was messed up.". But besides the actual story, the campaign does a good job of teaching various roles(sniper, assault, etc) for the infantry and usage of the tank. Definitely worth the run through, but if this game was single player only I would probably wait for it to get down to $30 before buying it.

Seriously? Influenced does not mean copied. Giving off a COD vibe does not mean copied. And if you honestly think this game was not in the least bit influenced by one of the biggest video game franchises of all time, which also happens to be a modern warfare fps, then you need a reality check. And notice how I mentioned the gameplay is still like Battlefield? You don't have to be a fanboy and flame me for something this ridiculous. http://pc.ign.com/articles/119/1197118p1.html Along with that article, nearly every review of the game has noted that the single player bears some resemblances to COD. No not copied (easy fanboy, easy), but similar.

I was saying that Battlefield 3 is not influenced by CoD, but more influenced by Battlefield 2 and keeping along the lines with that story/background as compared to CoD. You should take a bit of your own advice before criticizing someone else because I was countering your opinion by saying that the story line for Modern Warfare ripped off the stories of two different sources, one being a book and the other being a much earlier Battlefield game.
Reviewers say that Space Marine is influenced by Gears of War, just because an opinion is held by a majority of reviewers(who probably have no idea that there was a console version of Battlefield before Bad Company) doesn't mean that they are right.
Battlefield 3 is influenced by Battlefield: Modern Combat and Battlefield 2, CoD is influenced by Battlefield: Modern Combat as well. Am I a fanboy, no, I play both games equally because they both offer different flavors in terms of multiplayer. What I do not like is when people say that some modern shooter is influenced by CoD when in fact the franchise in question has been doing modern time war for much longer than CoD.
Basically I will hold it at this, Modern Warfare has been given way too much credit than it actually deserves(when the second one ended I immediately knew the basic story behind the third one, its that predictable). Modern Warfare was not some god-like entity that revolutionized the modern era war FPS game or even brought the modern era war FPS game to market first. It won't even be the first to bring a futuristic war FPS game(one without aliens) to market because it has been done.

There is no doubt that both series have influenced one another. I think you could have told me you disagreed with me without flaming me, here at dakka we can hold different opinions without insulting people can't we? Modern Warfare didn't necessarily revolutionize anything, but Modern Warfare 1, 2 and Black Ops are definitely some of the most popular fps games ever made and therefore Battlefield 3 has tried to appeal to the Call of Duty fanbase in some aspects.
