Sooooo I like Gundam and I really liked the Gundam Kampfer. So I decided to carry the scheme over to my soon to be Tau army and the Kampfer over to the stealth suits (and probably other stuff in time). I know the painting isn't the best but this is my first ever 40K model and I was kinda experimenting with undercoating and stuff. I'm looking for so constructive criticism and just some overall comments on this scheme for Tau. I also know that Tau are normally the sleek agile high firepower race but I thought some spikes couldn't hurt

Ben
PS- Gotta make a shout out to 7yler who, after seeing his army thread, really motivated me to getting a Tau army and applying this scheme!

Pics are a little blurry, and the model looks a little too shiny but the colors are pretty spot on for a Kampfer (which isn't a Gundam, just a Mobile Suit). Could use a little highlighting as well along the panel edges.

Off to a good start.

Yeah our camera has been having issues lately... I put it on macro and it would focus beautifully but then once I snapped it it would get blurry. The shiny is because I had to use the flash. and yes the Kampfer was a mobile suit. It is weird I chose it for stealth since the Kamfer was a full on attack mobile suit. Highlighting, got it. I'm thinking of making the Fire Warriors look a little Zaku-ish. The only thing I'd like to do in the future to my Kamfer model is add some jets (just like on the MS) to the back, which would also fit well due to it being jump infantry

you know you need a red suit

Hehehe yeah I was trying to work out color schemes as to who gets to take on what mobile suit or Gundam's colors!

Clearly it should all be Zeon, as they are the superior force. As long as the commander suit is red it's all good.

It would be fun (if and when I get the money) to make Kroot stand ins and make the FW but painted up as Zakus and armed with power axes

Just did some highlighting, I will post up pics soon. But now for a question: How much of a contrast between lightness of the highlight and the normal colors be?

Generally it depends on the colour you're highlighting. Though the difference should be noticeable, just not insanely bright compared to the base.

With GW paints it's usually the colour tone up from the one you're giving highlights to. So Goblin Green with maybe Scorpion Green or 50-50 Scorpion Green to Goblin Green.

Wow, my first thought when seeing the paint scheme was "Hey, he looks like an O.M.A.C. from DC comics..."

Ohhhh crap then you are really gonna think it looks like O.M.A.C after I put up the highlight pics. Cause that's about the color I used for highlight (I mix my own paints) so apparently I need to use a darker shade of blue then I did because its about the same color as the light blue in the above picture.

Benamint,
wow, thanks! are you using a Forge World troop? looks good!

btw, might want to back away from the mini a little when using the flash, and zoom in. cuts down on the over flash. I had a lot of that going on with my stuff since I use a lot of glossy clear coat on my guys. or give a light spray with matte clear. kinda gives a satin finish.

Keep it up!

I was hoping you'd comment after all! No they are just out of production stealth suits that I added spikes too. Shoulder spikes are tooth pick and the fore head spike is from a metal FOW sprue. I got another cobbled together and I'll post them up this weekend. I might do a P/M blog to show my stuff in progress. I had base coated the stealth suits black and then glues the tooth pick on. It made it look like Khorne-Tau with boney projections!
