Does anyone give their Dreads frag cannon arms or are lawnmower arms just much better?
At first glance the Str 6 double template seems pretty win but then you lose an attack

I've played my Furioso with a Frag Cannon a couple times but more often he get's stuck in CC. Hence I've opted to retire the frag cannon for another Talon with a HF.

Frag cannons are just marine copies of Grotzookas.
Same reaosn the BA paint everythign red to make it go faster
Frag cannon aren't bad, but talons are better.

I'm starting to think the frag cannon ain't that bad. With a heavy flamer, you have an infantry blender still with three templates but lose all AT except assault and are vulnerable to being tar pitted...Hmm...
Frag Cannon+Magna Grapple+Melta Gun? You get 2 S8 armor void shots and a double S6 AP- rending templates...Still very capable of taking a tank but also lacking in the range department but I suppose no Furioso has range.
Something about a double barreled shot gun for a dreadnought just...Makes me feel warm inside. I want it to be good. Any thoughts on my two possible load outs?

Eh is about as far as I can reach. While the Talons with Meltagun exist it is hard to overlook them for something that fulfils the same purpose as the rest of the army.

If you're in range to use the frag cannon, you're in range to assault 8 times out of 10. The templates won't do much for you against heavy infantry, MCs and tanks, whereas blood fists or talons most definitely will. If bloodtalons didn't generate more attacks for every wound they cause, maybe the frag cannon would be better. As it is, dreads will ripe apart infantry with ease without weakening themselves against other units.

The fact that the Frag Cannon is AP- is also a problem, since you get -1 to damage rolls. Even with rending, it isn't very good against vehicles.

So I recently got a game in against GK and used the Frag Cannon/ HF set up on my Furioso JFF. It worked really well when placed in a Storm Raven with Mephiston. Furioso templated a squad of GK Termies and caused 13 wounds (some lucky dice rolling on my part) and took out 4 of the 5. Mephi jumped in and took care of the last termie. Furioso made its points up there in a single round of shooting. He went on to kill a GK Grandmaster. MVP of the game for sure.
Needless to say, i wanted to see how other BA players were doing with frag cannons. So i searched and this thread popped up. Sorry to pull it out of the grave, but i thought the information might be useful

I used frag cannons for a while but like others said I found myself locked in cc far too often... Plus talons are uber winsauce

Rag cannons are awesome. That doesn't make them good. In every case, the blender fists are going to be better.
Now the magna grapple...

I've played a frag cannon/heavy flamer furioso in a pod before. It's pretty good at nailing backfield units that tend to clump together in cover. I could see it being good in a stormraven as well. The maneuverability to put those templates where ever you want helps a lot.

Agreed. the big thing is maneuverability. As with any "shooty" unit it is going to need to be supported. That is why i like the storm raven and its dual unit transportion, you can back up the dread with a nasty unit. The other great thing about that little SR of love is it draws a lot of fire.
