I can't find mine anywhere that doesn't require upfront payment for the honour of knowing a small segment of my family's history.

Mandorallen turned back toward the insolently sneering baron. 'My Lord,' The great knight said distantly, 'I find thy face apelike and thy form misshapen. Thy beard, moreover, is an offence against decency, resembling more closely the scabrous fur which doth decorate the hinder portion of a mongrel dog than a proper adornment for a human face. Is it possibly that thy mother, seized by some wild lechery, did dally at some time past with a randy goat?' - Mimbrate Knight Protector Mandorallen.

Quite frankly I don't think it's worth the cost to maybe find out something I already know and to be able to access some jpg.

Actually found it as sort of a preview. Site says I have to buy the jpg, though I can print screen the smaller preview one easy enough.
Oddly enough has the eight pointed star in it.

Seems to also be a variation on it where the yellow is swapped out for white.

I have an actual Coat of Arms, just need to find the paper and scan it. Ours was lost many generations ago, so I had a new one designed for myself and my issue (since we are all talking fancy here) to chronicle the history of my family and my own contributions to it.

Actually knowing your coat of arms is pretty interesting as it can say a lot about your family. Every piece of it should have a special meaning as it pertains to your history. It is not just a "picture on a shield", but a detailed account of your families past.

My guess is that pretty much everyone here does not have a "personal" heraldry, looks like a lot of "googled for a crest for some random person who just happens to have the same name as me".

Generally Scots seem to be able to trace and claim thier clan crest pretty easily. IIRC there are now some research groups willing to trace your clan affiliation by genotype. You know for science and stuff, not because we watched highlander.
I belong to a family of Travelers, and Germans on my dads side and Dutch and Bohemian commoners on my mothers.
I'm pretty sure I don't have a hereditary coat of arms.
I'm also about 90% sure the last name my grandfather traded down to me was an alias his parents used when they ditched him at the orphanage.

Depends on where you're from, a lot of clans had crests and when the times advanced people emigrated and went to America where the name was sometimes spelled incorrectly. For example the name Altenbaugh is actually a misspelling of the name Altenbach. A lot of people of Irish and Scottish descent have some crest from way back when because of the fact that way back in the day they did.

Now my mom's dad's side of the family probably doesn't have a coat of arms for the Austrian side because they were most likely poor as hell. My mom's mom's side has some crests because they used to be more well to do frenchies.

I think I'm to much of a Mutt to find anything useful, when I've looked in the past there are way to many hits for both Jones and Wilson to figure it out, even if I limit it Wales (both sides of my Mother's family), what I get for having a common name I guess I did draw up my own design about 10 years ago to use, but it's not the same layout as normal Heraldry.

Stuff and nonsense! Tom Ipod is a good, solid Anglo-Saxon name, one with a rich heritage. It means 'rural smallholding'.
