I'm in the middle of a Kroot counts as Dark Eldar army project and although I've done a lot of the infantry modelling I'm still stuck on skimmers. My army list demands both Raiders and Venoms and although I think I can krootify the current raider, the venom is just way too DE for me.

So, I know their are lots of other companies out their that make 28mm vehicles (Ramshackle games... etc) but does anyone know of any that make 28mm skimmers? Hopefully with one the right size for a venon counts as.

Thanks

Lunarman

Use a piranha?

I'm sorry, I'm not trying to shoot down your ideas. However, I cannot use Piranha's . You see, this army are archetypal Kroot mercenaries, they left Pech on a warsphere before the Tau contract began and as a result they've not met with Tau technology. Based on a desert planet they required skimmers to cross the vast dunes faster than their natural mutations would otherwise allow them.

I'm going for something quite like this: http://www.legendgames.org/acatalog/Nikto_Gunner_on_Desert_Skiff.jpg
For my raiders and ravagers.

I'm going to achieve this by taking a Raider (http://www.games-workshop.com/gws/catalog/productDetail.jsp?catId=cat540001a&prodId=prod900156a ) and cutting down it's shape loads. Off with the 'bridge' and the prow and the gun at the front. Removing the dark eldar railings and filling in the 'grooves' in the main body.

Then I'm going to add a big ramshackle engine in the middle, camo netting, kroot guns and rifles and hopefully make it look much more kroot like.

However the shape of the venom is too hard to disguise. At the moment I am considering just taking a raider, doing as I just said above, and then chopping out the middle section to make it shorter.

Does anyone have any other ideas?

I don't want to argue with you, it's your army and concept but being mercenaries, Kroot would potentially have access to any faction's equipment either captured, bought, stolen.. If you don't want to use anything Tau, you could use a Marine Landspeeder or any other skimmer and mod it. The warspheres weren't even Kroot tech so they have little tech of their own and even the old Chapter Approved: Kroot Mercenaries list had other factions' gear.

I can't think of a decent skimmer from another company. Best of luck.

You could try to do something like this.

You could chop the fins/blades of the sides and bottom of the venom. Left off the Cockpit cover, and rebuild the front end to match you modified Raider.

Hey they're kroot, why not make your venom some kind of big flying bird akin to a krootox?

I love the organic idea, I think it'd be awesome. Unfortunately I think it's beyond my skill as a modeller! Would be wicked though, and make the most sense.

I think Grass4hopper might have it

I've decided I'm going to go with my blasters and dark lances being represented by Crossbows (like Wookie crossbows). Finding infantry sized ones should be easy enough. Finding the 7 tank sized ones, much harder...

Does anyone know of a site that sells large bolt throwers at cheap prices? I'm thinking roman ballistas will open up the historical option.

What i really want is something like the bolt thrower here but not for £12.50 as spending £80 on dark lances alone isn't very appealing. http://www.games-workshop.com/gws/catalog/productDetail.jsp?prodId=prod1070137
I can 3d model. does anyone know if it's possible to make 3d models, then get them printed by a 3d printer and sent to me? Are 3d printed models good enough quality for warhammer?

I agree with agnosto. Them being mercenaries they could potentially have technology from just about any race (sans the ones that would eat them or take their blood for their deities). Primitive weapons and vehicles may not be the case all the time.

Check ebay for WHFB stegadon bits, they have an option for a big bolt thrower. Quick search and I found one for $1.99 w/2.75 shipping... I didn't check for bits in the U.K. but I assume they're available as well.

Well, the OP didn't want to spend 12pounds on a bolt thrower so I doubt he'll want to spend 47pounds for the whole model.

Agreed that it'd probably make a great venom stand-in but not sure it'd mesh with the chopped raiders he'll be using. He could go all organic and get squigoths and gnarlocs to represent the different vehicles though.

That would be awesome (although pretty expensive).

I love those knarlocs! I'm deffo gonna work them in somehow, even if it's just as apoc centrepieces or as a counts as Talos. You see, you just can't represent a skimmer with a walking beast That's a counts as too far.

A bolt thrower like that is exactly what I'm after. I'm hoping to either find one (hopefully for no more than £5 each) or 3d print them or make them out of matchsticks and string and greenstuff!

Warhammer fantasy has some giant eagles. They could be green stuffed up to look more like a kroot subspecies and used to pull a chariot-like glider with a couple of armed kroot in it

The cheapest giant crossbow/ballista I found so far are going to $3 US:
http://www.ebay.com/itm/DEAL-20101a-Ballista-25mm-miniature-CASTLE-Defense-/140164290163?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item20a2715673#ht_500wt_1081

Automatically Appended Next Post:
And here's a 8pk of that model for on $20 US:
http://www.ebay.com/itm/Mega-Minis-8-pack-Ballista-/250893340921?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item3a6a6890f9#ht_500wt_1180

If you're willing to spend a little more money the Harpoon Launcher from the new Orge Kindoms Stonehorn kit is pretty awesome if you're willing track down the bitz:
http://www.ebay.com/itm/Ogre-Kingdoms-Crossbow-Harpoon-Thundertusk-Kit-BN-GW-WHFB-Lot-121-/280760634467?pt=UK_Toys_Wargames_RL&hash=item415ea34c63#ht_766wt_261
Personally I think this would fit the Kroot look well, and seems to be about the perfect size.
