just the other day, ran into a necrons player that had the best set of luck with wbb rolls and it was so annoying to kill anything off the board other than assaulting them with power weapons that is... Anyways when I mentioned that, he said that dragowing was the hardest thing to kill that he's ever seen and we had a pleasant debate following that.
Long story short, not couting the new necron codex cause we have no idea whats in it, what do you guys think is the toughest/most durable army that there is.
not couting killiness or firepower or anything like that, heck, don't even really care about competitiviness. Just want to come up with something fun to play that makes you opponents go "WTF, why won't you die!!!???!?!" sort of thing.
storm shield toting termies?
big tough tanks?
regenerating tyranids?
wbb necrons?
fnp assault marine swarm?
100 guardsmen blob that just won't die (or run off the field I suppose)?
opinions highly welcomed

Nids definitely don't qualify, because they have no invulnerables and struggle to get cover, so get blown off the board by AP2-3 weapons. No tank based army really qualifies, because no matter what a single lowly Marine with a meltagun can kill any vehicle in the game (excluding the Monolith for a month or so anyway). I guess a list which goes for armour saturation (think 15+ Chimeras) might count, but that's more the quantity than the quality. Necrons can be annoying, but they aren't really durable due to Phase Out removing the need to kill all of them and WBB not working against Sweeping Advance (and they are terrible in assault).
Generally I would say armies with diversified multi wound units are going to be at the top of the list here. Ork Nobz, Space Wolf Thunderwolves (who probably fall out of the running if you are talking about an army not a unit, because they aren't Troops) and Grey Knight Paladins being the best examples. By themselves they do have issues though, the key ones being Ld/Morale and vulnerability to S8+ weapons, which is why they tend to need T5 characters with them. FNP Assault Marines also qualify I guess, as do FNP TH/SS Terminators (Blood Angels).

Thats not really saying anything as Space Marines, Space Wolves and Blood Angels all have similar units same str and toughnes, same armour values and are simmilar in that way.

well the way I considered it, I'd count even super size enormous mobs of guys like somehow combining several maxed out groups of 100 man IG with super upgrades or heck, a 100 ork blob could be fun too I suppose. I'm not really even considering feasibility but would have to fit into the current force organization I suppose.
Like I'd like to make a super pally group of like 20 paladins but it maxes out at 10 *sad face*

that's not actually that bad an idea! But they'd still be 30 mob size at most right?

Mechdar with Eldrad and up to 9 skimmers at 2K.
MSU armies with up to 8-9 tanks at 1.5K or 10-12 tanks at 2K.
Draigowing with libbie backed by psyfleman dreads.
Assault terminator deathwing.
TWC hero-hammer space wolves.
Fatecrusher builds.
These are just some of the most resilient armies to play against.

Hope you don't run into 30 TH/ SS termies.
Or 24 Fateweaver'd bloodcrushers.
Or 70 Toxin sac'd genestealers.
Have fun.

Though verhicles can be killed with one shot, i'd still opt for that 1500 BT pts list fielding 4 land raiders i'm tinkering with to be quite resillient. Maybe a one trick pony, but a resillient one. And loads of fun. And resillient.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K4qdgno-huo the perfect song for Dark Eldar
Four scholars at Oxford were making their way down the street, and happened to see a group of ladies of the evening. “What’s this?” said the first. “A jam of tarts?” “Nay,” said the second, “an essay of Trollope’s.” “Rather, a flourish of strumpets,” advanced the third. “No, gentlemen,” concluded the last. “Here we have an anthology of pros.” |

That many guardsmen would be REALLY tough, but if regular slugga boyz got the charge off on your units, they would fold REALLY fast. But then again, thats playing counter and you could beat anything posted using that logic. The most resilient Ive personally played, was the first time I played against Necrons, and didnt quite understand how best to kill them. Those bastards just kept getting back up.
